  10. Agreed. Bay Area drivers do seem confused when the effective coefficient of friction changes. Adapt your driving style to the conditions? pah! What, you mean ABS doesn't violate the laws of physics to guarantee invariant breaking distance?. Don't Make Me Think! / Put down that Latte / iPhone!

Interesting to compare a "consumer" reviewer (e.g. the above) to a "pro" review , say http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan10/articles/studioheadphones.htm

  18. Here we go again. Think of it as DVD-A for Blu-Ray https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OaB0OTBFDM http://www.whathifi.com/news/ultra-high-quality-audio-from-blu-ray-enters-the-mainstream Its like they've used the High resolution audio of the Blu-Ray format, but forgot to add any moving pictures ... So it can be played back on any Blue Ray player (or PS3) ... http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/blu-ray-players/1294969/blu-ray-high-resolution-audio-seeks-to-succeed-where-sacd-failed http://www.dvd-and-beyond.com/display-article.php?article=1943 https://www.facebook.com/HFPureAudio1 Initial releases http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=11097 Some Classical http://www.naxos.com/blu-ray_audio.asp http://hiresdig.blogspot.com/2012/11/blu-ray-disc-for-high-resolution-audio.html or you could have some pictures to go with that http://www.amazon.com/music/dp/B009E9R2OK
  19. And in other news, some smart folks have thought outside the box, and combined DoP, FLAC, and existing software to give you http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98978-SB-Touch-amp-DSD-with-a-DoP-DAC! via http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f11-software/playing-dsd-any-players-including-squeezebox-touch-16346/ Exec summary DoP = DSD over PCM - play the DSD bits, (not converted as), but packaged as PCM - so you can use S/PDIF or toslink as the transport mechanism. FLAC is a container with well a defined tagging ecosystem. So tag + playback using software of choice - output as PCM - PCM input interpreted as DSD ... looks fun stuff I've played with the DSD->PCM conversion in foobar2K so I can play some DSD test tracks back on a PCM dac - not that you'd want to , more as a proof of concept . Lacking a DoP capable DAC , I can't test this out at the moment - but I like the idea. So Benefits are existing PCM playback software / hardware (e.g. SB Touch) but will drive a DoP capable DAC .... Would only work with bit perfect playback - so no replaygain , software volume / EQ - as the PCM data isn't really PCM Audio so can't be manipulated as such. Gapless might work ... Interesting stuff
