  5. Liked this comment from another Brit (note the implicit fanboi dig) I think if you look at how it is being marketed, you'll see that Apple are targeting up-market, fashion conscious, watch buyers for whom I suspect the features are secondary to the style and image of the thing, so women. At the same time they are offering men more butch versions with gadgetry included. The chaps with expensive cars who buy Swiss mechanical right now. This is additional to twenty million Americans who buy anything new the company produces. If they pull it off, they'll have done rather well. As for how long the battery lasts if someone overdoes the geekery, well how strong is the competition?
  6. Just to add a data point, the Sony RX100 mk ii (and iii, and others) have the ability to create a wifi network. You can pair it automatically with devices that have nfc by touching (some android phones + tablets have nfc) or Select the wifi network on your iDevice, Then transfer (a scaled 2Mp jpg) to your device using the "PlayMemories Mobile" app, so you can post on HC, right away! One workflow I've used out and about (because:technology) is DSCRX100M2->iPadMini->(tethered/hotspot)Nexus 4 -> Head Case Convergence is overrated

Oh cock. A TV Concorde is no more. Actions have consequences, and the law is the law. In hindsight could this have been avoided with on site catering / better contingency planning? perhaps. We may never know. Anyway. In this clip, James wears a hat.
  8. You'd have thought they'd have improved the playlist by now.
  9. And Windows 95 will be 20 on August 24, and the Rio Karma would be 12 .... progress ...

  12. +1 on the RX100 MKii (check out the exif data on my obviously shallow DOF shots) Isn't it about time for Jeff to upgrade? ( )
  13. Any reason given for the absence of Yorkshire Pud(dings)?
  14. Seriously though, this is the classic gain staging issue, where you want a global optima wrt. to sound quality / what you end up listening to. As birgir states, turning the BHSE to max takes it out the loop, but makes it a fixed gain device. At very low pot settings you may have channel imbalance / tracking issues, so you should avoid that range if it is an issue. If you have a digital system with a volume remote that operates in the digital domain, the induced (LSB) quantization error, is normally below the noise floor / effective resolution of the dac, so although digital volumes may introduce theoretical errors, in practice, real world issues dominate, so it may be ignored (or reasoned away if you suffer from audiophilia nervosa) Ideally you'd want the minimum number of components in the chain (that makes sense), operating at their best. This situation is similar to when the squeezebox / transporter owners wanted to directly drive power amps using the digital volume control with no pre amp. short answer, yes, but due to potential software failure modes / user error, you'd want some fixed attenuation in the chain, to limit output when volume was (inadvertently) set to max. (or as they state *If you remove the preamp and fail to ensure line level is properly matched to amplifier input sensitivity, you may harm your speakers, or ears, or you may get poor performance from your system.*) This wiki link collects the wisdom / recommendations. http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Connecting_directly_to_a_power_amplifier Think of the BHSE as the power amp in your set up I had issues with preamp /gain staging issues with the PC / Headphones / Quad Actives set up, but all my knobs are within reach
  15. Can't you get your gentleman's gentleman to adjust your volume? "As you wish, sir" #firstworldsolutions.
