Ok. I guess clarinets are supposed to sound like ducks. I wish I had known that, at conservatory. If you think you know more about woodwind timbre than I do, well, I applaud your musical career.

The build quality is brilliant.

I'm a big fan of the RS-1, HD-800 (modded more than not) and the Stax 007 and 009. I used to swear by the Grado HP-2.

Arganese CL3. Very decent, after 9 years in my humidor. I got about three inches of ash, but that fell off while I was trying to take a pic, of course, so all I have is a pic after the first 15 minutes. 120 minute smoke.

I would suggest taking it to a phone repair place, if you have one nearby. I think it likely needs a board replacement (and maybe a new home button), but that will be a lot less money than a new phone. The nice thing about having such an old phone is that you won't have to worry about also replacing a Touch ID sensor.

That looks like a hell of a lot of fun, HemiSam!

I'm disappointed with the Utopias. They are very good. That is the problem. Everything with them sounds very good. Nothing sounds great, and nothing sounds bad. Maybe I could have a better system for them, but a Capitole Mk II SE running to a maxed out SP Extreme with true NOS VT-231 and Tung Sol 5998 is about as good as I'm going to get. Thank you, Todd (skullguise), for letting me borrow your Utopias. I am very interested in what my friends think, on Sunday. It is a combo of audio engineers and music fans, and none of them pay much attention to me (they wouldn't be my friends, otherwise).

That's really sad, Peter. You need to grow up. I've done it. If I can do it, you can too. Unless you want to give me a time out because you are wrong. Sure, no computer is invulnerable. The one in my alarm clock is awaiting its hacking. Any second now. You used to be worthy of respect, Peter, even when we disagreed. That was a while ago, I guess.

Marketing isn't about being diplomatic. That's PR. Marketing is about turning flaws into strengths. You could learn a lot. A lot.

I guess my opinion was just awful, and censored people who asked for advice. I find that article to be extremely conservative, but I'm censoring Dusty, so what the fuck do I know? I do it every fucking time. After all, there are hackers right now trying to break into Peter's sister's Mac, as we speak. We don't know there aren't! Other people have to go through me, too. That is the law.
-
Give me a time out, Dusty. I'm sure that will prove you right. You're the big man now. Show me how I censor you, Jefe. Did you ever think that you are the censor? You sure hate it when you don't know something, but think you do. I have no power to "do it every single fucking time." I gave that power up when I fucked up. I just try to be helpful, these days, and try to not make my client look bad. I guess I failed there.

There is no gambling, especially with any vaguely recent version of OS X. Then again, I'm an OS X and UNIX security expert, and I understand how this shit works. When MolGen brought me on, we quit losing proprietary protein models to the Chinese. I'm sure that was just a coincidence. I'm sorry that being ignorant makes you aggressive, Dusty. It's not attractive. I hate to say it, but I'm going to relegate you to Aardvark land. I didn't even relegate Aardvark there.* Sure, then you say "Me am programmer!" "You am programmer" means "you am security risk," in my experience. Major, major differences between being a programmer and being whatever the fuck I used to be. I'm a marketer, now, but I had 14 years of not being that. Break Gatekeeper, Peter. Come on, you are so smart, programmer. DO IT. Teaching users to think before plugging in their password fixes the vast, vast majority of issues in OS X. But come on. Break it. *Of course I'm not doing that, but ask Dan how much anti-virus software he runs on his Macs. I'm sure he runs lots and lots *nods head.* I'm sure you'll listen to him. Asshole.

I didn't mean to be an asshole. Which is saying something, for me. I would suggest putting some up on eBay. I only bought from where I did because of my eBay coupon.

Well, at least they are free.

Has either program ever found anything that wasn't a piece of Windows-only malware?
-
I have never run any kind of anti-malware or anti-virus on any Mac I've owned, and I've been a Mac guy, and administered Macs, in great numbers, and with very sensitive stuff on them, for years.

It's just Proxy.SH. You have to find the node that works best for you.

Speak for yourself. I pay $5 for an encrypted VPN that only eats about 10% of my bandwidth. If Google can decrypt RSA4096 on the fly, they deserve to see what kind of porn I like.

ok.

So is talking to the IT department not in the cards?
-
I would definitely wait. The current Retina iMac hasn't been updated since its release in 2015, and is really no faster than my late 2013 non-retina machine (which, admittedly, is still a very fast computer). The Retina you specced would be excellent, but I totally recommend listening to Dan. Apple is starting to pay more attention to the desktop, and it would be a shame to miss the fruits of that, if it can be helped. If you have to spend it before then, you'll still have a very good system. Also, a 2009 Mac Pro shouldn't be a dog, if it has adequate RAM. Can you have your IT department take a look at it?
-
Yeah, they suck.

My HD-800 has the full mod applied, now. All I have to say is this: if you have a non-modded pair of HD-800 and you have a pair of Sure olive foams, just go ahead and do the mod with the foams. You'll thank yourself for the 2 minutes of time. If you don't have any Shure olive foams, you might as well get an "official" "resonator," from whatever source. I'm not hearing a big difference between them, but either is definitely an obvious improvement over the stock phones. If you are stupid like me, you pay $20 for a pack of Shure Olives, and then $20 for a "full" mod. Don't be stupid like me. I've got my HD-800s on my head and I'm grinning. That is what is important. I'd love to compare this to a pair of HD-800S, if anybody wants to send their pair to me. My HD-800 is 29692, if anybody gives a shit. I don't. This is my third HD-800. I plan on keeping this one.

I wish I had an SACD player, still.

Maybe 2019 will be to Cuban cigars as 2004 was to Bordeaux wine. If that happens, maybe we can expect 2020 to be nearly as good, but cheaper, just like 2005 was for wine.
