I’m at my partner’s for a couple weeks, so I travelled with the Niche and my little machine. Makes delicious espresso. I’m leaving the machine; Heather is interested in making espresso at home, in which case I should probably leave the Niche here and buy a Lagom P64, since I already have SSP multis in my Ode, which I could stick in the Option-O. The Niche and the little Breville fit in just fine in a busy kitchen.
-
I’ve never cleaned my niche. There aren’t a lot of places for crap to settle in it. That’s awesome, Bryan! I can’t wait to get impressions on both the P100 and the Argos.
-
Finally have it on wrist. It’s a stunner. I’m not looking forward to my first scratch. It’s even thinner than the Drive extra flat, but you can definitely feel it on the wrist more.
-
Well, I wasn’t really expecting to be the only bidder on an Hermes Arceau 28mm (for Heather; I already had her birthday gift, this was just a whim). Now no more watches! At least this one isn’t for me.

I don’t quite have it (should be Monday: shipped to my best friend, in another state, to avoid tax), but I think I’ll be done with watches for a while. I can’t wait (well, I can and will) to have it on my wrist.
-
I’ll probably end up buying one, but I’m pretty happy with the setup right now. It’s just FOMO and GAS.
-
I’m glad that worked out so well, Mikey! It’s a solid upgrade for cheap, right? I’m still thinking about the Weber Unibasket, though…
-
I think you’ll like it. You should get a bit more extraction.
-
Here’s to hoping; I won’t have it for a few days.

I traded my 116170LN for a Santos Dumont in rose gold plus a good bit of cash. Rolex prices high/precious metal watches low. It’s not the fanciest watch in the world, but the gold Santos Dumont has been a grail for me. It just took two years of never wearing the GMT Master 2 to get me to do something about it, I guess.

It’s not filtering, particularly, it’s simply spreading the water the way a shower screen does, but more evenly. Keep in mind that the Flair 58 doesn’t have a shower screen/ I wouldn’t put a filter on top on a regular machine probably.
-
Yep: in place of the puck screen, on top of the coffee. Works great. You can get 58mm filters on Amazon for about a penny each. Like AeroPress filters they can be rinsed and reused a couple times.
-
That’s a beauty, Stretch! About the same dimensions as my Hermes, so I bet it wears like a dream. I love that blue.
-
I hate replacing a permanent piece of gear with something disposable, but I really prefer using a paper filter instead of the puck screen with the Flair. Great pull just now, and no screen to always have to deal with.

I have a couple IMS and a couple VST. Honestly I grab them pretty indiscriminately. I used to be careful with my dose matching the basket, but I shove a 20gram dose into all of them.
-
I’m thinking about getting a Weber Unibasket. It’s absurdly expensive for a basket, and if I like it I’ll have to get two (one for the Flair one for the Breville as I don’t like having to switch gear over; there is a reason why I have three Acaia and two Timemore scales), but I find myself rather intrigued by it. And I like Weber stuff. Anybody have any thoughts on the supposed benefits or have used the Unifilter? I have IMS and VST baskets already; quite the jump in price.
-
I did the same thing with mine (with the exact same bits): shiny is good! I have noticed no difference, but the gasket had gotten hard and likely needed replacement, or would soon.
-
Bryan, if you go with the Flair try a Bellman stovetop steamer; it’s a little slow compared to my Breville, but it steams very high quality milk. You would just want an induction burner on your coffee bar.
-
That’s a big buy! You have to report back, of course. I don’t know anything about the Odyssey Argos, but I heartily recommend the Flair. It won’t make lattes, though!
-
It definitely wears like a 40mm watch, but of course very slim. It wears similarly to the Drive extra flat, which is also a bigger watch than a lot of people expect. Sam, it’s interesting to me that the typeface looks perfectly art deco while looking completely contemporary.
-
It arrived. I ended up just sitting outside for 3 hours. Anyway, I love it. The internet has different thicknesses listed. I get 7.85 mm. It’s just thick enough to have some presence. Not much thicker than the hand wound Reverso ultra thin case, though a noticeable bit thicker than the Drive extra flat. The strap is the nicest alligator strap I’ve handled.

Last week I found a bag of coffee at my local Fresh Market that was from April 2021. At least it was on sale. That said, I’ll happily drink coffee from beans that old if said beans have been frozen the entire time. I have some special beans in my freezer that are over a year old; frozen two weeks off roast the beans taste, to me, more or less how they did when I got them.

FYI: think twice before buying something on eBay that goes through “authentication:” FedEx Express* is the last mile provider, and if you live in an apartment or condo complex you ain’t gonna get your watch unless you go through a lot of hoops or knew beforehand that it’s best just to have the box delivered to a FedEx location for hold. I’m *hoping* the Hermes gets held today. Oh; the contract eBay has with FedEx requires the item to never be held anywhere unless eBay intervenes. EBay is at least easy to get on the phone. The authentication group is very aware of the problems. If the damned thing had just been sent directly to me from Japan I would have had it a week ago. *whenever I see FedEx Express on something my heart drops into my stomach, but this has been infuriating even for FedEx Express.
