  1. Why stop there, build the Xono There was a group buy on boards on diyaudio years ago maybe here? http://www.r-stens.de/diy/AlephOno/diy_aleph_ono_en.php
  2. The current sources will be replaced with the IXYS parts in the amp & PSU, and I might try a few other devices that KG has suggested for the output devices. The 1st 2 stages will become a small surface mount module, with 2sa1156 replaced with the higher voltage 2sa1413. the 2sk389 will be the lsk389 from linear systems
  3. I got 1 step closer today to the new Stax amps for next year...received a prototype of the heatsink that will be for the sides of the chassis. its going to be a heavy one
  4. Probably these
  5. I paid $821 from Bisco for a 4-gang RK50 and that was 2 years ago i'm afraid to find out what DACTs USD prices will be next year
  6. It's my board that I sent him, so yes I will be using the Linear LSK389. The Toshiba has been discontinued
  7. Unless you're OCD you could just listen to the vinyl while converting it...or your phono pre-amp is so bad it can't drive a headphone amp/pre-amp & ADC at the same time
  8. Front Panel Express FTW!
  9. I have a Biorad PowerPac 3000 for that. I need to get another one, for amps running on +/- It will do up to 3000V, 400mA, 400W deadly
  10. http://cgi.ebay.com/OLD-Fluke-407DR-Plate-Filament-Rack-Tube-Power-Supply_W0QQitemZ160184703511QQihZ006QQcategoryZ58287QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If you have room for this thing...
  11. The minimum order from the Alps distributor (Bisco) is only 1 piece and you can configure it anyway the datasheet allows
  12. Here are a couple reviews of a 24" EIZO, which you can get for around $2400 (about 3x the price of Apple's 23" and 4-5x the price of popular Dells/etc) http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/09/16/eizo-coloredge-cg241w-high-end-monitor/ http://www.macuser.co.uk/macuser/reviews/129056/eizo-coloredge-cg241w.html excerpt: pricey though
  13. will the "pharmacy grade" prevent the heart attack that will come with it?
  14. Update - Head-Fi Will Be Back, but without private messages or forum attachments
  15. The ladder attenuators always had 4 decks for stereo...i don't know if this has changed
  16. http://www.goldpt.com/prices.html Nice, you can get them with a power switch now, it would be easier if they made PCB mount versions though

  19. what copy machine costs $390k?/
  20. It would be a single volume control. Likely a quad stepped attenuator, although I'll look into a pot as well. Only the Blue Hawaii SE can drive the TakeT H2. The KGSS would work with some mods including paralleling the output devices, but this would be a different PCB, different chassis, different power supply...I can't see an amp exclusively for TakeT H2 as a possibility, because it would cost 3x as much as the phones - already same price as KGBH SE - and I'd need at least 15 who want one
  21. The Ety ER-4S are also still my preferred IEMs, at least until I try splurging on custom Ultimate Ears. I tried the ~$300 Westone UM2s a while ago, and they just sounded bloated in the lower-mids and rolled off treble, overall a very muffled sound compared to the Etys. It was also difficult and painful for me to keep a seal, the Ety triple flange tips work best for me and aren't painful at all although my ears do get tired after they've been in for several hours. One of my non-audiophile friends recently bought Ety ER-6i and prefers his Apple iBuds for exactly the opposite things that I don't like the sound of the UM2s. I have always taken the reviews on Head-Fi of newer IEMs with a grain of salt as I suspect most of them have never tried any of the "obsolete" like the Etymotics. I also hate how ridiculously sensitive most of the new IEMs are. They just make amp design/building more difficult, requiring SNRs that are impossible with current technology to completely avoid hiss, mis-matched volume controls, and difficult to use them on planes and on gym equipment because you have to be at the lowest volume setting and then if the equipment is reset remotely and comes back on a higher volume level you get blasted
  22. I've had the ugly box KGSS for nearly 4 years now which is hard to believe. So I definitely believe there is a market for a pretty box version (of course there are substantial updates to the power supply, amp circuit, and overall quality of engineering changes to go with that). Also, the amp circuitry will become surface-mount modules, except for the output stages which will be on the main board and heatsinked to the sides of the case, which is what the custom heatsink is for. I want to keep the KGSS under 2k and the KGST will probably be 2.5-3k. By the 3rd one I meant the KGBH SE
