Project fact: The Project has more attenuation and better channel matching than an Alps RK50
  7. they're pieces of stabilized maple burl that are cnc milled and then hand sanded and lacquered. please tell me i can send the pieces to you for finishing on the next 4 im going to make.
  8. No, it was never listed on the site. I made 10 of them after Meier was able to get Sennheiser to make 25 more pairs of HE90. The design of the amp is similar to the HEV90 and Gilmore's original all-triode amp, using the same tube complement as the HEV90 and a regulated power supply. It was in 2 boxes, separate PSU (not shown). I have some more parts so I'll be making 4 more of them after the BHSE's are shipped.
  9. What do you mean? An all-tube electrostatic amp is one of the easier projects to do. Maybe only the all-tube "preamp" is easier.
  10. Mike I really doubt KG asked to attend the meet or is even interested in attending. If he had, I'm sure he would have been allowed. Of course he wouldn't be invited to the after party but i'm not sure that's what we're talking about
  11. maybe it was bought by another manufacturer like the last one for sale
  12. If all of the LODs used right angle plugs, it could solve the problem

Sounds like he needs a cryo dock and a Pico to remedy that hiss
  14. like this guy? I'm gonna need you to go ahead and build amps on Saturday
  15. I don't remember saying that. With Shure E530, it's not surprising you'd hear some slight hiss at high gain, but that's why there's low gain. I've never heard of any hiss with a GS-X (except maybe max volume at high gain) with any full size headphone which is why I suggested you send it to me. Only time I've ever had an issue like that was on a prototype GS-X module where the AKG K1000 was creating instability, but only when driven balanced, and it resulted in some hiss
  16. design by marketing is so much easier. you don't have to deal with these questions and the parts can be cheap -- all that matters is that it sounds amazing!
  17. Look what you did
  18. It would be better if they came with right-angle plugs, but that probably wouldn't sound as good because the electrons would be forced to make a hard turn so they'd have to slow down from the speed of light
  19. The metal contacts inside get slightly bent from up/down/left/right force the bending of the cable puts on it and its enough to break the jack. The insides of the jack still look the same, it doesnt take much.
  20. I've used 3 different mini jacks on 3 different portable amps, and some of all of them get sent back with broken jacks. In the case of the Pico, i've replaced about half a dozen jacks, on every one of them an ALO dock was listed in the rig of the owner.
  21. Anyone who understands what you just said probably isn't going to be buying a pre-built portable amp. It's seen as a $125 portable amp that compares well against other $125 portable amps.
  22. Yes, Mini^3 Different Capacitor Edition would be a better name
  23. true and therefore he had absolutely nothing to gain by giving Ti credit for the design. he could have used a cheaper/easier design, called it his own, and it wouldn't be tied to what has a reputation, although unfairly, for being an entry level DIY design. so a lot of the comments in this thread and on head-fi are misguided.
  24. Same thing happened when gsferrari started selling Dynahi's for $600
  25. i dont know if they would have built in temperature protection, but they would at least have voltage and current protection. maybe the capacitors are enough to trigger the discharge current protection. try putting a resistor 10-100 ohms in series with each cell and see if it works
