    JeffersonJam 2011?

could be more if they weren't already including the screened porch, which there would be appropriate weather for at night through september

    JeffersonJam 2011?

I could make a poll w/ possible dates and see what might work best Example accomodations: 4000sqft farmhouse w/ pool on 85 acres. "sleeps 17". $400-650 per night http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p185451 Girls Getaway is the closest match

    JeffersonJam 2011?

the train is really easy, it's the fastest way to get from D.C. with how bad the traffic is now. and is cheaper than driving. regarding date, it could be very flexible
  4. as long as someone takes out a headphone, i could write this one off
  5. Just an interest check to see if anyone would want to attend a meet in Charlottesville, VA. I could rent a mansion in wine country on ~30 acres for less than $200 per night. Events besides headphones/speakers could include getting drunk at a local vineyard, concert (schedules not released yet), Monticello tours, other crap etc. I would think sometime in August or September would be a good time. Local airport: CHO 70 min drive: Richmond (RIC) 2 hour drive Dulles (IAD) --> mass transit is available, but is annoying. Have to take a bus to the suburban metro station, take the metro into DC, transfer to the line for Union Station, and then take Amtrak south. Would be about a 3-4 hour trip compared to 2 hours in a car. 2.5 hour drive OR Amtrak ($30) from Union Station: Reagan (DCA) * The Amtrak train runs from New Orleans through Boston *
  6. add a resistor in series with each headphone

  8. forgot about that, KG's ancient pictures are too fuzzy to see if he snuck in any compensation caps also, the 2SA1156 was changed to 2SA1486 because the 1156 was running too close to its 400V limit, though that was really more of an issue on the Blue Hawaii.
  9. when are you going to implement a version of the stax diffuser circuit?? you should do this all passively, and hand wind the inductors
  10. Bob, Did you measure the FR after lowering the gain? i would guess variations in the FR from KG's original amp, which was built at least a decade ago, would be due to changes in open loop gain from use of slightly different transistors, or slightly different voltages of the LEDs KG's article says -3dB @ 45KHz into a Omega II load. you are right that i do have +/- 0.1dB on my website. that is likely a copy & paste error thats been sitting there for 6 or more years Regarding gain levels, 60dB is the same as Stax uses in their amplifiers. On the BHSE I did lower it to 54dB because most people are using high output level sources and I thought it was more than sufficient. For most it is, but the occasional user pairs it with a low-output phono stage and runs into problems. This is especially true with the DACT stepped attenuators which save huge dB-steps for the end of the rotation.
  11. Craig, did you ever read about how Virtual Dynamics had undergrad students do a "study" to prove their power cables were superior?
  12. r u sure? i'm 5'8" 144lb and i wear a medium. how could i be bigger than large in Australia?
  13. hey guys, can we roll transistors? also will someone build me one for parts cost?
  14. tips on how to do this in a 20x22' room that includes a kitchen and 2 large openings to a long hallway and a bedroom, 11 foot ceilings, and about 100sqft of windows? it's one reason i just said f-it and went for bookshelf speakers (B&W 805N) anyway. i'm hardly believing the -3dB @ 42Hz. i'd believe 80Hz.

  16. you forgot one. not adding high-voltage insulation between the secondary windings because the enamel is "rated for 800V" every transformer was dying after 1 week of use. drove me nuts trying to figure it out.
  17. i've ordered the "same" transformer from 3 different companies and received 3 extremely different products. usually 2 of them will not work properly.
  18. you think the coatings on some Made in China oven tray/pan are safer?
  19. pico screws powdercoated with a clear coat? what? the silver screws on the Pico are stainless steel. the black screws are usually black oxide, sometimes painted, depending on where I get them. both suck as the black doesn't last forever, and sometimes they rust. i don't know what the solution is for this. I'd like to just use black anodized screws if i can find the right #2-56 ones. for the Pico Slim, the screws are #0-80, and I haven't found aluminum screws probably for good reason. yes, it is on the top/bottom/back/heatsinks. the threads are not coated, neither is the mounting surface of the heatsink or areas where I want electrical contact.
  20. no optional fuse holders? shame on you
  21. ask for textured black and you'll get what you want. the coating on mine is pretty thick, probably 4 mils
  22. it's possible. i found a website that shows how to tell real vs. fake. it's all about small differences in artwork on the box, documentation that is/isn't included. absolutely nothing about whats inside the headphones
