  1. i wonder what's going to happen in the future with Unlimited Data vs. Not Unlimited Data. could it become the divide between the haves and the have nots? in a few years, 2GB/$30 will be nothing. maybe 10GB will be a new lower limit, but it will cost $50/mo. in a few decades we'll be paying $500/mo for data while all the early adopters still have unlimited data for $20-30/mo. or will they find a way to kick out those that were grandfathered in?
  2. Jim - will look into it today iphone - texting on a RAZR is really slow. when i first went mobile, i had to increase my # of mobile minutes because i kept going over the limit. so currently on a 1300 minute plan. then, Verizon took over my carrier, giving me Verizon mobile-mobile minutes, and my # of minutes used plumetted to around 500. then with the increased use of texting, i'm probably down to 300-400 minutes right now. which wipes out just about all the value I have in paying $50/mo for 1300 minutes (2003 rate plan). when what I really need is texts and data. also, the camera is good.
  3. that would work on wifi but unfortunately i wont be grandfathered in to any unlimited wireless plans. the 2GB (or less) wireless data plans really kills the idea of iCloud IMO, and i wonder what apple plans to do about this. but iCloud isnt exactly a streaming service, is it? i thought it's just a syncing service -- so you could easily fill the iphone's capacity.
  4. you put any lossless on it? thats really the only way i could see filling it.
  5. well, i think it's time to join the smartphone wagon. goodbye motorola RAZR 2006 model. i'd like to wait for an LTE capable phone, but in bumfuck small town virginia its probably going to be a few years until we get LTE anyway. so now the question is 16, 32, or 64gb? let's say i upgraded in 2 years, so don't want to pay for excess capacity
  6. He criticized the performance of portable amps and then built something 8 times larger with 1/3 the battery life. ok, but that's not what people want for portability.
  7. to force you to pay crazy repair prices from their distributor, who probably isnt even going to respond to you
  8. i had to replace the cable on my pair. it wasnt a bad connection at the driver as i suspected, but the wire(s) had eventually broken below the strain relief, requiring the entire cable to be replaced. i think i bought the cable from Kuboten.
  9. only if you pee in the aisle

  15. Welcome. You've Got Mail.
  16. with an unusual ribbon cable maybe buy a pair of Skullcandy and put them in the box
  17. yes, when i do that i get the ~70V. when i flip it around so the labeled side of the A1486 faces me, i get the correct 700V. this is true of both batches of 2SA1486 that i have, ones from bdent (that have been used for BHSEs so far) and ones from dalbani that look slightly different.
  18. wait a sec. i am now getting 745V, but i had to flip the part around. inserted into the tester with the leads reversed from what you show in your photo.
  19. sounds like my PNP side is busted
  20. hmm..got my DY294 tester, i am guessing mine is defective? - set V(BR) to 1000V PNP - insert 2SA1486 that i know is good - get a measurement around 70V - tried a 2SA1968 that i believe is real and get around 150V - tried a 2SA970 (definitely real) get about 25V ok, how about switching it over to NPN and put in the complimentary 2SC2240 - hmm, 200V range is too low. switch it to 1000V range. - 215V .....thats either really good as the datasheet says 120V, or the # is wrong too.
  21. this same problem exists with parts machined in China. pay for USA aluminum (like 5% of the part cost), get Chinese aluminum which cant anodize properly.
  22. this is why i cut the gain in half on the BHSE. just dont tell anyone on HF (more gain = better).
  23. not surprising, and i bet it is based on past experience...earwicker?
  24. count me in mike btw - what would be the best way to spend a day in Ocala before/after the meet? would be a long drive
  25. ask Steve, he may have tried Craig's tube socket
