people have different levels of hearing. based on averages by age, at 500Hz mike's hearing would be about 6dB worse than yours -- which could easily be the difference between audible vs. not audible. At 8KHz, it could be a 30dB difference.

That's true. I believe Stax lowered their USA prices several years ago...it used to be really outrageous, like 2x the price in Japan. Then it dropped to around 1.5x, or even 1.25x if you knew a dealer and could get a bargain. Since that time, the dollar has dropped 20% against the yen and Stax has not raised their dollar prices (to end users -- i have no idea what goes on behind the scenes with dealer pricing)

i don't get Stax's business model. Why do they need to sell products to Yamas who sells products to dealers? Why can't Stax just sell directly to the dealers? I'll tell you why. Because Yamas are good with people. They deal with the god damn customer!

I have had the JH16s for a few weeks now to replace the mis-shipped JH13s. They are great, and I would recommend them over the 13's based on my limited human memory. I think this is partially due to the better fit on this pair. Rather than get new impressions made, I sent in my pair of Westone ES5 to use as impressions. Because the Westones are made with a soft tip material, they increase the diameter of the tip to get a better seal. I was worried this would cause discomfort with the hard material of the JH IEMs, but it's no problem at all. They are extremely comfortable and feel exactly the same as the Westones.

i think i found my favorite youtube comment so far "Beats suck! Get a quality headphone, like Bose!" honestly though, if I were 16 right now, i'm pretty sure I would have a pair of Beats. They seem to be today sort of like the Klipsch 2.1 computer speaker system of 2000 -- to a 16 year old, the best speakers in the world. I had a pair of Sony MDR-V6 until I dug my way through Head-Fi to find out about Grados and Sennheisers.
