  2. the fingerprint scanner is really just to make it faster to make iTunes purchases, and probably so they can lay off the people who deal exclusively with iTunes chargebacks from people who claim purchases were unauthorized. There is no way they are going to get into the complexity of having different user accounts
  3. i agree it is a great size for a phone. but its a bad size for just about anything else. probably 5-10% of my time w/ the iPhone is spent on a call, and that can be done with a headset. I think what happened was Apple entered the phone market at the tail-end of the tiny phone wars, and they didn't anticipate that trend would end. Not that I'm going to give Android phone makers any credit for reversing it. I think they just started making huge phones because they couldn't be competitive with the iPhone's processing capability or battery life without making a larger device, and that allows for a larger screen. It just happened that at the same time, everything went mobile, and people started spending as much time looking at their phone screen as they do their computer screen. Apple has done their best to ignore this, and maybe it is to force people into owning an iPhone, an iPad Mini, an iPad, and a Macbook (i'm 3/4 of the way there..). Or they're just really stubborn. I think they had to do their 2 year cycle w/ the iPhone 5 design so they didn't look foolish, and next year they're going to offer 2 new models, a big one and a regular sized one.

  8. if drop is the height difference between the saddle and bars, im looking at more like 3" on the bikes i've tried. could be 4-4.5" if the spacers are removed. to get 12" id probably have to ride a kid's bike and i could lean over and lick the pavement

  10. 5'8" (7 3/4 if you want to be picky) inseam 30.5". i was told jeff's calfee was too big, the seat had to be lowered to the point that it was close to level with the handlebars. otherwise i felt comfortable. i hadn't rode before though
  11. i tried a couple road bikes at a LBS for sizing, as so far my only experience is jeff's 56cm calfee which is too big. i rode a 51cm scattante (which is apparently Performance Bike's house brand), a 53cm (S/M) Fuji and a 54.5cm (M) Fuji. Of these i would likely consider either the 53cm size or the 51cm, though i felt my neck/arms would quickly be tired on the 51cm bike. unfortunately there was no 53cm Scattante to try for comparison. so if i bought one of the cheaper Calfee bikes id still have to figure out if i wanted 52 or 54cm..most size calculators are coming back with either 53 or 54

  15. are you sure? nobody has successfully built a KGSSHV. the bill of materials just isn't complete enough.
  16. another possibility could be to use M2.5 stainless screws, which are 0.098" diameter compared to #4 which are 0.112" and M3 which are 0.118" diameter. This could allow selection of a shoulder washer that is a little smaller in both inner and outer diameters to fit all the transistors without trouble, and less capacitance since the screw has more distance to the tab hole. you just wont be able to use any pre-threaded PCB mount heatsinks, since all the ones ive seen for sale are #4-40 or #6-32. overseas im sure they're metric but probably M3 or M4
  17. the pricing for the PEEK would be about 30 cents for the phillips and 40 cents for the socket head. this is probably less than you'll find anywhere else online. thats for M3 - 8mm length, which is enough for any heatsink or flange that is threaded, but if you're trying to go thru a 1/4" thick flange and put a nut on the other side it wont work. i dont know what quantities i would have to order in different lengths, i only had that one size quoted for 5,000pcs
  18. i think thats the same one i used to use. the one that is thicker than the TO-220 so the washer extends into the aluminum oxide insulator. getting the washer to line up with the hole in the insulator was annoying. i just found that overall the PEEK screws were more idiot proof for contract assembly. how many cracked washers would i get and never know about?

  20. what are you using instead? a metal screw? i havent personally had problems with a metal screw and a nylon shoulder washer, though i havent done anything with unregulated voltages as high as Kevin mentions. though from outsourcing assembly on things like this i cant trust them to properly use a shoulder washer. then again i also cant trust them to properly torque the plastic screws..
