portables have changed, gotta have a DAC now and then the DAC has to have top secret NASA technology that goes obsolete in 6 months. its not worth it anymore
Some manufacturers did that with headphone amps years ago. Sell the expensive home tube amp, then come out with the 'just as good' portable amp

i measured one of these and it was nearly impossible to adjust the pot to get 100Vrms on the output with a 1.5Vrms input. It was like trying to listen with IEMs on a high gain amplifier. Also, there was considerably channel imbalance at this level (off about 25%)
i bought the HR monitor this winter and used it on the trainer. havent tried it on an actual ride yet. not sure i want to know!
