  1. yep, with all the mods that are available on the "internets" sounds like something to try out, heh... I wonder if the same mods can be applied at the other ones, they look really interesting too.. I bet most of the mods can be applied as well. I am curious about the DAC-68, which is based on the 60, but has the balanced outs and goes to 192khz, among a few other changes I think...
  2. does anyone here has any experience with the "other" lite audio dacs (by that I mean other than the well known around here DA-AH). Man there are quite a few of them. There is quite a bit of into on the DAC-60 at audiocircles. Then there is the DAC-68, 38, 39. So offer balanced outs while others only single ended. Anyone heard any of the ones listed??
  3. Hey congrats!! I hope you derive many hours of joy from that TT! The way to go (IMHO) about vinyl is to solely buy used. It can be inspected on the premises for warpness, scratches or even some places will have a decent TT to test for noise level. The ammount of warped records and high background noise I've found in recent producing bands (read current productions) basically has turned me away from buying new. Absolutely crazy. Of course the downside of that is the limited availability of contemporary material.... I really enjoy my TT, but I also agree that it is not for everyone. I guess I am old enough to have actually bought some vinyl when there was only vinyl to be bought. That gave me somewhat more of an acquaintance with the media, I guess. As an aside, my first record ever was "Flick of the switch" by AC/DC
  4. But, hey who has your DAC now? I miss it at the meet. dang, Leeav just slept too much , by the time he got in, I was done, duped and overloaded with gear...
  5. In my short experience at the NYC nat meet, they were really sensitive to positioning around my ears regarding bass. I did not find it extremely pronounced, however, my impressions were using a Dynamight, which has very controlled bass. I wonder how would they perform with other amps... I am sure we'll know soon enough once more guys start getting them.
  6. I agree regarding the black dragon. I like ayt's cable a lot more. It has a nice frequency extension. [Hum, maybe Alex may want to confirm, but I believe mine is a silver/copper hybrid] It sounds fulller, yet stil manages to bring up the fast/lean character of the 010. The black dragon, I feel limits this headphone a bit. In fact my post before somehow did not make that clear as this sentence got messed up:, the "as" should have been "has" below "I find it as good frequency extension, IMO, compared to the black dragon which I heard before with the 010 in my system." But anyway, are you making a 010 cable Zach?
  7. Actually, I rather enjoy the braided "white thing" on mine. ha! Although one cannot actually see the braided cable since it is covered I find it as good frequency extension, IMO, compared to the black dragon which I heard before with the 010 in my system. Look forward to impressions on your cable Zach!
  8. Well you know, at some point I was looking around trying to find out if there was anyone cursing, kicking people in the ass, ruckuss. But not, not really, everyone was really well behaved. Thought to myself: well, seems that mjg really did not make the meet. seriously, it's regretfull we did not meet in person!
  9. Actually, I laughed really hard on sunday when I first read this transcript. The guy with the webcam never told me you guys were stuck looking at my table. I could have done something to entertain, at least get you guys the coveted E500 for all to see . I did try to steer the webcam towards the ultrasone booth so that you could appreciate the pair of real good "cans" that were present there... Although, to be honest, I personally did not think they were real, but I would need to do the touch test, just to make sure... One thing is for sure, the webcam was small enough that people needed to be aware of it to notice it. LOL.
  10. But why, that is most generous from you to give us the chance to listen to this DAC. Wonder what we'll use to feed it with.... hum... transports, are a pain to carry...maybe a DAP. heh!
  11. SO.... where is the promised info and pics? You certainly have some interesting DACs in the house that would make for an interesting comparison.
  12. GE balanced cable arrived. I hope the singlepower amp shows up soon. I do have an XLR-->RCA adapter, so I can listen to the cable. But it will great to use it as it is designed to. I should be able to listen along with other cables soon.
  13. Hum, somehow I feel I have seen the face on this avatar somewhere else, and the nickname, rimes familiar double-hum..... [ welcome! ]
  14. Actually, go ahead and send them. This will be exciting! I will be very surprised if the amp does not get here very soon. *cross my fingers*
  15. Sure thing, although the Singlepower balanced amplifier that was supposed to show up from repairs today, did not. So at of this moment I do not have a balanced headphone amplifier at hand. If the headphone amp does not shows up soon, I will update (it has been a long wait for the repairs) and most likely it will be better to send to the next person that wants to audition the cable. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it is really unfortunate and completely out of my hands, long wait...
  16. Great! Thanks for sending it my way. I'll let you know once I get it.
  17. Enjoy your new player! You sound a bit deffensive. So to clarify I am not making any attacks on your opinions. It just stroke me as a very certain statement regarding the G08 player that I wanted to hear the associated gear you used in your audition. As a disclaimer, I don't own the G08 or any Rega players, btw. And I really have no stake on, or about, either player being indeed better than the other. It was not a loaded question FWIW. I am sure I'll get to hear the Apollo and make my own judgement. Yet just because there is new technology out there, it does not mean it is inherently, and categorically, better. Thanks for sharing your impressions. I look forward to hearing this player.
  18. I think they did a great job in the re-mastering for the SACD version of "the bangles: greatest hits" he he he oh, BTW, this sounded great in Hirsch's modded Denon player, out to a SP Supra SDS then to MDR-R10
  19. Does anyone knows whether the Saturn will have balanced outputs? Congrats on the new player! Is your comparison to the G08 using headphone-related gear?
  20. Tyll, congratulations on the review and also in the incomming Stereophile evaluations. I think this obviously gets your company some well deserved attention, but also it increases the general public awareness of the rather wide headphone field nowadays. As a disclaimer, I loved my old-school headroom portable, and also I owned a MOHR with stepped attn, which I also liked very much. TheSloth, That looks like a very expensive avatar . This is off topic, (and if you want to pm the answer, please do so) what is your favorite composer/piece... Enjoy the new tool!

    Balanced RS-1's

OK, finally got around to post these pics. I tried hard to show the golden color on the R/L letters and the dark red driver mesh, but still did not showed up very clearly. The headband's leather is in pristine condition. This is a really nice pair of NOS RS1s. It came with flat pads that were attached to the wooden cups. I don't know whether they did that on purpose or just the time made the pads stick to the wood. But the uniformity of the "stickyness" makes me think that they were indeed glued to the cups. Anyway, those pads, had to come off because they were dry and sheading because of age. I have no idea whether what generation these are. They sound good, really good. Many thanks to ayt999 for uploading the pics for me.
  22. Hey GE I'd be most interested in giving it an audition. I have the cardas, mobius, and stefan balanced cables. I think I could also borrow a moon one for additional comparison. I am out of town until next week.
  23. I also think its the gilmore. please let us know how you like it what amps do you currently have?
  24. oh and I meant to say as well that I can't comment on the 340s as I don't own a pair either. my apologies can't edit posts on pda
  25. my 701s have about 400s hrs on them. I think they are quite neutral cans. In this sense I like them with chamber music. I think they reproduce strings with great tone. They are not that great on percussion, in my opinion, this includes piano reproduction. I can't say much regarding a comparison to the k1ks as I don't own a pair.
