  1. probably wait for it on netflix. I know the vast majority of book-based movies are at best "loosely tied" to the original, but in this specific case, I thought the adaptation was very poorly done. If I had not read the books before, maybe I'd like the movies, who knows.
  2. Happy B-day! Have a good one!
  3. nochnoy dozor or night watch.... from Russia with love.... for blood that is....best CGI from that area. Puts Underworld to shame IMO. OK story-line, entertaining. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/
  4. I had a blast. Great meet. I am very impressed by Justin's DAC prototype. Dead quiet with the UE IEMs, great sound, great imaging. I am looking forward to the release version. I think Thrice deserves public recognition for coordinating the location/keeping the thread with participants, gear etc, organized. The time and effort is appreciated! Specially in the midst of a hectic time for him. I enjoyed the Aristeus/HE90, that was referred to as the "lawnmower set-up" . I admit that I spent much of the 5hrs I spent there chatting with people. Did manage to snipe the modded iGrato from Hirsch... hee, hee. Compared to the stock version, there is an improvement. So the mods are worth. I should compare them to the Koss Ksc-35, those IME are hard to beat for the price...
  5. Is it any good?
  6. No DSD available, limited repertoir, albeit an option for 24/96 downloads http://www.linnrecords.com/linn-downloads.aspx [edit] I misunderstood your quest. You want to convert material that you already own.... Haven't seen anything to that extend yet...
  7. Thanks guys! Basically, yes, I don't even remember when was the last time I purchased ram, and even when I did it it was for a mac. So I am basically clueless.
  8. I am looking to buy some RAM/. Any suggestions for a reliable source? PC2700 CL2.5 NP DDR SDRAM SODIMM Memory Thanks!
  9. Yet it may seem that the last line indicates that L3K and CD3K owners should take a cold shower upon desires of frequent "nose flapping." humm
  10. They show up on ebay very seldom, but they are out there. They look very 70ish. Basically a typical looking bookshelf speaker with wooden enclosure. They had normal looking speaker drivers, not headphone drivers like the ones John grado has. At least the ones I've seen on ebay....
  11. I have a similar case (a pistol case, actually). I had it customized to carry a modded earmax pro and a pair of grado cans. The only issue I had is that foam stunk, in a chemical sort of way. Did not wanted to go insane in the membrane, thus never quite used it to store the headphones there for an extended period. ymmv
  12. Thanks aerius, Yep, the RS1 is a very difficult beast to deal with in terms of mods. I actually have an old school RS1 (golden letters, brown headband) whose hot glue is dried up. SO it should not be hard to open up. However, since this a rare can, I haven't convinced myself to anything with it. Tempting but not an easy decision. As n_maher points out, I do remember doobooloo doing this in a similar dried up glue on older RS1. I think the high risk of damaging the chambers is why headphile won't do RS1 mods. Oh, and btw, Headphile mods the drivers as well. I don't know whether the "pattern" of the headphile dampening on grado drivers would match that of your friend's drivers. But I know for a fact that he applies dampening material to the back of the grado drivers.
  13. amazing, powerful, and very sad... ps. Looking for a bigger image, but could not find one...
  14. aerius, could you find out more on this mods on the RS1 cans? Who made them? where? $$? Thanks
  15. Wife- Hum, those look different... wait... did you just get a new pair of headphones!!!??? You said you were done with those square funky looking thiiiings..... S- Eh, no...., I just got them a stax-bra. Just like the car ad-on thingy.... IT prevents unwanted air currents from messing up the sound. IT is called prevention of spurious frequency range distortion I swear it's just an add on. NO, no new headphones honey..... Wife- Dunno, sounds bogus.... I got to keep a closer eye on ya. Let me take a look in the closet, any new "boxes" in there..... S- No dear, check it out. (Phew good thing I flattened those boxes earlier) yikes. And so it goes on, and on and on..... [end of story] -------------- OK, I'll lay off the glue now. Congrats!!! they look awesome. Look forward to give them a listen Me things you are hanging out with big H too much, heh! JQ
  16. Have a pint lady!! Happy St Patrick's! Old Taddy Porter, instead of Guinness this year he he. Sacrilege
  17. Honestly: I did preferred the prototype GS1000 that was present at the national meet '06 to a regular RS1 out of the same amplifier. I think it was a great 300B-based amp present that I used for the comparison, and also out of jjcha's dynamight. However, it seems that somewhere along the lines there was (were) a change(s), because the production GS1000 that I have heard (3 different pairs) have sounded hollow in the midrange to me. Not my cup of tea I guess. To the OP, you can do better, just be patient.
  18. there, now you are really getting into the Philly spirit.....
  19. Happy B-day!! have an electrostatic one
  20. Congrats. Impressions! I am sure the name of the track on the wireless receiver reflects your thoughts right now, so we are all ears....
  21. I used to own an old style MPX3 and it was quite good with the RS1. I own Sr225 and I will say that the biggest difference is that I find the RS1 much more "textured" and coherent in terms of presentation. I prefer the RS1 to the RS2 (of which I have owned 2 pairs, but sold them both). The biggest difference to my ears is that the RS1 is more spatially resolving, making the RS2 sound a bit congested in comparison. On the other side of the coin, the RS2 alowed quite a fun listen because it seemed less "distracting" (dunno if I am explaining myself here, but anyways). I guess sometimes a less complex musical image is an easier listen.
  22. The hd25 senns that were recommended up are worth a try. Also if you can get your hands on woodified CD3000, they are also worth consideration. The regular CD3000s were too bright for my taste but, maybe a laid back amp may work. For reference, I have not heard any beyer cans, (the ones Dusty mentioned, I need to get together with him to to this someday) or the koss either. cheers.
  23. C?mom man, I missed all the fun pictures. Got late to the thread. I hope you enjoy it! long-time-no-talk Alex, how you doing. I am outside USA right now, but should be able to check email or PMs from time to time. best!
  24. oh my! that looks really good. Can't wait to give it a listen!! Very versatile indeed. I like Headroom's build options fitting a range of pockets. I am seriously looking forward to giving this baby a listen Tyll. Congrats!
