  1. Dang, I've been on a rampage. I am almost done with the Dark Tower series. Probably, next would be the "the demon in the freezer" and "the hot zone," those should have been required reading earlier, but never got to them...
  2. Congrats! Didn't know you were expecting (well, your wife). All the best in the parenthood journey. And the pic is lovely
  3. Fixed that for you! Very smooth transition. Thanks Tkam.
  4. just came back from a meeting, checked CNN and was shocked to learn this as well...
  5. I have been tempted to buy a used APL player on audiogon a number of times, but I really can't figure out what I'd be buying. For instance, I've read that there have been several iterations of the DV-50 and also of the denon 3910. Using the AKM dacs or not... Then on top there are several versions of these AKM dacs as well? I've asked a couple of sellers on Agon and to this day have not got an straight answer as to what AKM dacs their unit has. Maybe they truly don't know, since this market seems to running at lightning fast pace. So, it makes it hard for me to figure out what a reasonable price for a used unit is. I'd for sure love to hear one though, specially in my rig : - )
  6. Well funny you should mention this because all of the sudden there have been two on audiogon. The second one sold quickly. I heard the T1S once and it was not bad with the Lambda sig pro. Is the T1w similar in sound? I shall keep my eyes open....maybe I'll brake my no-electrostat run, heh.
  7. good to hear you are doing OK. Time to pull an Anderson and secure your gear....(i think that is his handle, the guy who straps his gear on stationary racks while on a ship on deepsea deployment)
  8. I owned the MF Trivista21 and it had a laid back sound with very good presentation (staging). It sounded best when left on all the time (it uses those nuvistor tubes, that I believe are rated for 30000 hrs). I sold it when I switched to balanced as this unit has RCA-outs only. Not a detailed dac, but more on the musical side. For 1K I'd say it may be worth the try to see if it has synergy with the KGSS/OII.
  9. 82 out of 100 wouldn't have guess it.....
  10. congrats! welcome back to the world of cans.... : - )
  11. Got the ROKU Netflix player. It does what's advertised, and does it very well indeed. I think the may beauty of the device is its simplicity. The thing is tiny and super light. It has optical out, but have not done anything with it. I am intrigued to test it. Just waiting on a dac to show up and I'll test it. So far I've used it via ethernet and WLAN and it has performed great.
  12. Damn, you just came up with that now! I was already half way through developing a Bermoulli's for the flux of torque from index to index change.....
  13. The feel of the Shallco attenuators is a bit different from that of the DACT or goldpoint. It is a bit more "stuttery." In other words the indexing is more robust. I don't think this type would be that susceptible from differences in turning torque? (which is the big knob effect). I guess to certain degree this discussion is a mute point to the OP (because HR step ladders are of one type, but I think the gain switch if of great support here [i used to own a MOHR with stepp atnn]), but could be helpful for others considering ladders on their amps.
  14. Happy B-day!

    DCD on DSD

Dang, just got an email that the release was pushed back about a month, week of July 21st...
  16. Congrats and many, many years together!
  17. Very nice Voltron, congrats! I have kept myself away from stats. But I have to admit that I almost pulled the trigger on that SRM-T1W on audiogon, but talked myself out of it. heh!
  18. Happy B-day, have a great one!
  19. SOooo, any more impressions? Anything that blew you away? How about balanced solid state amps? Comments please?

Great! Have fun guys! How about some pics later?
  22. In thinking about this I realize that probably the first time I remember doing this was in high school. It probably was the beginning of it. And I actually enjoyed quite a bit doing it because the book was Tom Sawyer (or may have been Huckleberry?) when they go down the river. I clearly remember stopping as they started going down on the river and starting imagining all the fun stuff they would get into. So it was kind of a imaginative stop on this sense.
  23. Ah, sure reading keeps you out of trouble. All the best for you recovery. Nice, one book a week would be a good goal. I am lucky if I can fit 2 a month.
  24. Re: Barker, I hear ya. I'll pick it up again once I am done with the dark tower series. Oh, BTW, I did pick up the daywatch/nightwatch series and that in on queu as well. Heh, now that I remember, I started the daywatch one and left it half done (read only the first leg), once I reached the part where the movie ends, I stopped. Dang I tell ya, bad habit. Good thing though is that I do remember where I left off.
  25. Oh, forgot to mention, to make clear, that of all the books mentioned, the only still unfinished one to date is Imajica.
