  1. Georgian breakaway city in ruins - CNN.com Please check pic #2. I don't know how long they will keep this series up. I tried to find the picture in a non-flash environment, but could not. So I could not post it by itself. I usually stay away from commenting on war(s), politics, religion, etc. BUT, I could not take it. This is just fucked up. It made me really sad. This could very well be me my mother...

    RS1's?

Comparing the selling prices for the Grado HP-X vs Graso SR/RS series, it is easy to imagine that the [margin of earnings/production costs] ratio is much greater with the current line. I think even taking into account inflation, the Joe grado cans were over-engineered for the task thus reducing the profit margin. This of course is in my humble speculating opinion, as I have no hard facts to substantiate any claims
  3. How about one word for you guys: Jordache, those jeans were hot when I was in HC. Levi's were always cool. THEN Pepe jeans took over. LOL, I have never purchased a pair of jeans worth more than $70 bucks, let alone those fancy designer jeans worth a couple hundred.
  4. The only amp I currently have that brings life into this cans is a modified Earmax pro.

    RS1's?

No serial numbers. Real vintage ones came in wooden boxes, had brown leather headbands and golden letters

    RS1's?

-The short in the cable is an easy fix. Just cable replacement. THe real pain would be if the drivers go bad, because as far as I know that is what gives them that vintage sound flavor. -**When I say no difference in sound between RS1s is *only* referring to the NEWER RS1 (I would say 2000-on) with buttons and the newer iteration w/o buttons. In other words, I was just talking about the newer button-less vs the previous iteration with buttons. I do hear a difference between the older brown leather band compared to either one: buttons or no buttons. Just to be clear
  7. I have both blacks, with the regular type and with the HP1 type drivers and both are smoother, the HP being almost boringly neutral of the 2. But even the black with regular drivers is smoother than the current offering. Is akin to the older RS1 in that sense. [provided I make sense]

    RS1's?

I think the answer may be easier if you consider the following: -The odds of scoring a vintage brown/golden RS1 at a reasonable price are very low to almost null. -The newer RS1 with buttons and w/o buttons really do not sound that radically different to my ears. [i think the buttonless are a bit faster and more open, but that my be just my imagination, I have not done a serious comparison] In terms of treble energy and bass, they are not that different to my ears.

    RS1's?

OUCH is right. Man, I remember the days of $700-850 HP1/Hp2s. I guess those days are gone.

    RS1's?

    RS1's?

You know, I don't know about that. I keep rotating flats/bowls, and I keep coming back to bowls after a while. Maybe it's that I am getting old and my treble sensors are wearing out.

    RS1's?

Well, old pairs are worth much, much more you know, the whole "vintage is better" thing...

    RS1's?

For one the RS1 are much lighter, so your listening sessions would be less fatiguing. When moving from the SR325i (I never owned the MIS2i) I felt the sound gained in richness and overall the music delivery appeared more "elegant" and effortless. Head-stage had more definition. So in other words, if you find a good deal on a RS1--> Dew eet. I never looked back myself. I remember I sold my original pair of RS1, but them I missed them a lot actually, so I ended up getting another pair around 6 months after. Now, I have 3 pairs!
  14. There is some difference between the RS2 and RS1, but IMO mainly in the imaging: Instrument separation. The RS2 sounded a bit congested in comparison. But I didn't notice an extreme difference in treble. Maybe you got a bright RS2? There is some difference in sound between pairs of Grado of the same designation. That I have experience myself. Some for some reason have harsher highs. Maybe a pair of the older SR325 (black). Those were a bit smoother, at least mine are. Also, you may want to experience with the Senn quarter-modded HD-414 yellow pads, those tend to tame the treble a bit compared to the bowls. But not as much as flats.
  15. Okay, the way the camera pans on the dude, it is pretty hilarious. How he suddenly "notices" that there is a camera. Classic
  16. I think that second pic should go in to the annals of geekdoom as THE definitive representation of headphone geeks. Seriously, that pic is perfect! I have always wondered, when and where was it taken, anyone?
  17. Same here. I had a squarewave/DAC combo over a period of two weeks back in March '07. I could never figure out if I had a defective unit in terms of the DAC or what. Agree with purk, at least in the unit I heard, it sounded thin.
  18. Happy B-day Tom!
  19. When I saw this creature with the senns at the meet, the name Kelly popped in my head.....
  20. StevieO put them out rather late during the afternoon, I think you had left by then.
  21. This is Copy/Paste from H-F sans the comments on people doing some crazy silly stuff, that should not happen.... Great meet, thanks to GrAwk for organizing it! Of the rigs I listened: VPI’s Cary 303/300 (I think), feeding a Rockhooper Audio KGSS to a pair of Omega II MKI. Very transparent rig, good impact and the mids were there! I don’t know, but in my brief listening sessions with the OIIs in other systems, I have felt the mids to be a bit recessed sometimes. In this system, the mids were well represented. I think VPI got himself a good electrostatic combination. Since I am in the electrostatic area, I heard Tkam’s APL Denon 3910 into a HeadAmp KGSS feeding the Omega II, MK II. Oh man talk about effortless music presentation. The most impressive thing about the whole rig was how natural the detail and ambiance was presented, no sense of artificiality at all. Ingwe’s Ayre CX-7 Cd player was feeding a Bryston preamp, I didn’t get the model number on this one, then driving directly from the balanced outputs a pair of Headphiled AKG-K340. I think Ingwe mentioned there that the k340’s were not his, but they were hooked in his system when I listened. The sound had nice impact and it had good level of detail. Overall, the sound was too bright for my taste, but not overtly, just a tad bright. Nautikal, he had a DVD player (that is not usually in his system, I believe his source is a computer bases one.), feeding a Darkvoice (don’t know the model), then driving a pair of re-cabled AKG-K701. Well, this sounded really good, nice balanced sound. I owned the K701 and I got very fatigued after about an hour of listening. I did not listened to Nautikal’s rig for an hour, but it was clear to me that the harshness of the K701’s was gone in his system. I think if you are contemplating an amp that will mate well with the K701 cans, then the Darkvoice should be one to deserve strong consideration! Well done Nautikal that was a nice sounding system. I listened to Dreadhead’s GS-X based system. Please do not ask me to recall all the details of this convoluted set-up, because it involved several items in chain, but I’ll do my best: Dell Laptop as transport, to a USB/optical converter, to a Sound Processor (which I do not recall the brand) to a Bel Canto DAC3, feeding a HeadAmp GS-X. In this set-up I heard the denon D5000, sony mdr-sa5000 and Sennheirser HD560, all in balanced configuration. My favorites were the Senn’s, followed by the Denon’s and then the Sony’s. Going to try to hook-up the GS-x to my cd player to listen since I am looking for a balanced solid state amp, albeit to my chagrin Dreadhead left early, before I had a chance to ask. Next time! Got to listen to the UE-11pro and compare them to my UE-10pro. No question, the 11 are much more musical and more punchy. In comparison the 10s are flatter sounding. If I had to start from scratch, I would most likely pick the 11s, but already having the ue-10pro, I am not sure that what I heard from the 11s would justify, in my humble opinion, getting this additional pair. Now if UE had a “upgrade program” or “trade-in” program, I will seriously consider the change. The Audio Technica ATH-EWS9, surprisingly smooth. Out of the ipod touch sounded quite nice. I am getting a pair in the future. I liked them. The sound was the “good” type of AT sound. Like a baby, baby, baby L3000 sound signature. This is a light comparison, just regarding the general tonal balance. I do not think the EWS have the resolution and kick of the L3000, just the same general tonal balance. Also heard from Justin that he had fiddled with the volume control of the pico to allow for more control on the earlier field of the volume pot (region 6-9). This was my only grief with this great dac/amp as for most of my material the gain was way to high for the UE10pro at my listening levels. Look forward to listening to this.
