  1. Re: Oakley, I got this on an email: http://oakleyvault.com/catalog?N=100812+101078&cm_mmc=direct-oct13-_-sales3-_-top-_-txt-sunglass-shop-now I am definitely out of the Baltimore thing. My youngest got the bug and she had a night that every parent would surely want to forget. Non-stop coughing, puking, the works. Luckily my wife is getting back in town late tonight.
  2. It is unlikely that I can make it for the ride in Bal'more. I am playing single dad for almost two weeks until Sat. and I am beat! LOL. My oldest is sick as well.

    The Walking Dead on AMC

So, I am not going to comment on the specifics of the first episode of this season 4. BUT with the developments and all the hints from the commercials, etc, I think they are giving heads up that things are going down pretty quickly. I guess they are preparing the audience so that we are not that shell-shocked, hah! I smell a rat!
  4. Happy B-day!
  5. Have a good ride! Great weather here.
  6. Did the Beach Dr loop. Actually contrary to my expectation, it is completely closed to traffic once you hit DC. -All picnic and *parking* areas are closed. Bikes and pedestrians are OK, or at least all the police around (a lot of them actually) didn't say anything to anyone biking around... -Ross and all the other surrounding roads are also closed to traffic, which makes a surreal ride, tons of leaves on the road.
  7. Jeff, glad to hear that you didn't wait to get that checked out. Speedy healing!
  8. At least in Maryland, Rock Creek Parkway is open to traffic. I commuted that way today. Rock Creek Trail is likely closed by now since there has been reports that the other park trails in DC/MD are closed. (As of this early morning it was open as I saw people jogging on it.) I don't know what the situation on Rock Creek PKWY within DC-limits on the weekend would be. But my guess is that it is going to be open to traffic as if it were a regular weekday. On weekends/holidays Park Police closes most of the areas to traffic, but because of the Shutdown this will probably not happen. I have done the usual loop in on a regular weekday and it is not that bad. Weekend traffic would be lighter anyway. If you guys want to do the Rock Creek Loop on Sat, keep me in the loop, ha!
  9. Hooray then! Thanks! Look forward to filling it up, and again, and again
  10. Ah, Al, that makes it easier, Thanks!. Scratch the request Jeff, no need to be carrying empty glass around. That Omegang looks outstanding.
  11. I think it is a very good starter bike for a teenager. You don't want to spend big bucks when they are going to outgrow it in a year or two. Also, whether they like cycling or not, is the matter.... I think the location of the friction shifters is the best for a beginner as well. If they were in the down tube, it takes some more coordination to get going... Congrats to Simone
  12. Hey Jeff, do they sell the Local Option mugs? If they do, could you pick me one?
  13. Congrats Justin! Very good looking bike. I have the SM-PCE interphase to customize the shifting. Next time we get together to ride I can bring it down if you want to do changes to the shifting speed or modes, etc
  14. I am tentatively in... I would drive down the day of, and head back after the ride. Will confirm or otherwise on or around Thursday.
  15. Also a previously scheduled ride: the Beach Dr loop at 8 am tomorrow with a buddy.
  16. 3x!!
  17. More detail in yesterday's CWC ride: This is the whole century course. I rode to the blue dot on the map and to the indicated 29 miles on the profile There is a 65 mile-bail out point in which you ride 9 miles downhill to the start. That was the original plan for me. I just didn't have the legs after that hill at 27 miles. There were guys and gals passing me on the steep hills like there were riding on flat terrain. All and all, 3000 feet of climbing in 2.5 hrs, The stats:
  18. Got a call last night at 7:30 PM from a co-worker asking is I wanted to take an available spot for "The Civil War Century." I said yes. After checking the route I thought I'll be lucky if I made it to the first rest stop of the century ride. Indeed that is what I ended up accomplishing: 29 miles with lots of climbing. After that I took the SAG wagon ha! It was fun! As I write I am sure they are still going. 1600 riders. I want to do it next year. Hopefully I can train better. And for sure I will have at least a 27 cassette. Given the short notice I didn't get a chance to change the 25 that I have now that was very challenging he he he http://www.civilwarcentury.com/ Check out that profile!! LOL http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/cwc-civil-war-century
  19. Good luck Jeff Keep hydrated!
  20. Specialized forbids online sales, so no legit bike store should be able to sell you one under warranty. And I obviously would Not recommend buying one online, because It'll have no warranty regardless. Nor the colnago or bmc have much of a relaxed geom. I think a 56ish or M/L with a Relaxed geom may be of consideration. Maybe looking into a giant OCR type geometry should provide a less "stretched" out feeling overall.
  21. Schaeffer does have hunting: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/Publiclands/central/schaefferfarm.asp I tried to get info on when this would or did happen, but I didn't find it. Maybe I just missed finding the dates on that page, but I didn't see them posted. I have to say I am not familiar with Wakefield, but I saw somewhere that there is a lot of managed deer culling in VA as well as MD, due to overpopulation.
  22. Before hitting the trails around here, check for hunting schedules. I think there may still be bow activity, but I am not 100% sure...since VA and MD sometimes are on different schedules.
  23. Back in the late '90 through early '00 I used to ride Pisgah almost every summer. It is a really nice area with a large selection of trails. I was spoiled since my in-laws used to live for about 12 yrs in Hendersonville. This is one of the most fun memories of mountain biking I have. There is a lake in the park (with a little beach) and other kind of facilities. It is a very large forest. I remember visiting a bike shop in Ashville, Liberty Bicycles, and stocking up in stuff. I also remember that there were a number of Cabins/Camp-style homes and houses that would be up for rent for short vacations. This bike shop would organize/facilitate rentals in the vicinity of the national forest. I never rented since we had where to stay locally. I do remember that it wasn't cheap. This is also about 10 yrs ago(phew!). It is very likely other bike shops would do the same, so shopping around may be worthy. I remember visiting the specific house below once to check it out, since it was at a trail-head when we usually parked the car and stated riding. So something like this would accommodate a group, and it was fully set up for occupancy. The usual disclaimers apply, I don't know the owners, no relation, no personal experience with renting from them, but this could be a starting point of research for you guys http://libertybikes.com/articles/vacation-in-the-heart-of-cycling-paradise-pg62.htm Liberty Bicycles 1378 Hendersonville Rd. 24. Very Good looking bikes there.
