  1. That is possible here that it is a way to dry the wood, but it was done with hazardous chemicals and definitely used to beautify the material. The term is fumed and I am pretty sure there isn't much heat applied, if any. Hence the appeal to the woodworker and chemist
  2. Question for the Dr's Wood and Gilmore. Ever heard of "fumed wood"? I was at a luthier (violinmaker) yesterday and started talking wood and she showed me some beautiful fumed boxwood. I am not sure what they used hundreds of years ago in terms of chemicals (nitric oxide?), but this seemed like a very cool Gilmore knob concept Glad to cover prototype costs and I have a feeling Kevin could come up with something super unique.
  3. Similar. I have no idea what alternate reality I have stepped into. We are not in Texas anymore.
  4. Yes. Please include your whisky collection in the picture.
  5. Took the family to see the U-boat at the science museun. Pretty cool. Hanging back at the hotel relaxing...
  6. Are these like Ultrasone rebooted?
  7. I have this one and it works well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812552001
  8. No idea. What about a mechanical relay?
  9. Oh and lol that KG's schematic of Cavalli's amp is in the references section..
  10. Yup. I disagree that the KGSS is over complicated. It is a very elegant circuit. Simple circuits have their place though, but not in a 'stat amp, from what I have seen.
  11. Needs more plankton.
  12. SSRs don't like inductive loads. The results are transformers that buzz. There were a few threads somewhat acknowledging the issue but in the end, whether the relay is zero - crossing or rated to 50x the needed current, removing the SSR results in quieter transformers. Just use a normal relay, there are only drawbacks to SSRs and no benefits.
  13. Cool So I am down to only one beef with amb.org. Recommending SSRs. I am going to put a community service project out to remedy this soon.
  14. fishski13: for a long time the problem wasn't acknowledged. Since the site won't load on my phone I cannot check the BOM to verify another part has been recommended. If not, then "fragile" is the right term.
  15. Does it matter how the original was laid down? Can't LFF just fix it?
  16. I think fragile is the proper term.
  17. From the comments in the thread, it's probably not the best choice for the price conscience folks
  18. Before going crazy, check the Samsung 8500 series plasmas. They are competitive IMHO. Edit: not necessarily price competitive but performance could be considered by some to be better, depending on how you use it and environment.
  19. New band. Really like brown/black juxtaposition. Found a cheap Seiko deployant .. the GS one was too much to justify.
  20. What process did you follow to upgrade your S3?
  21. So they are now out? Heh, didn't realize people knew about them.
  22. I bought all mine from Arrow as well. Justin, perhaps ask Pacific Semi?
  23. Its complicated.
