oohhh.. that type of inter-connect sorry, proceed.
-
that's a statement you want to make sure is surrounded with adequate context ...
-
just don't get that thing near the blowtorch!

I'm not as cool as Nate, but I'd say the pinched-waist Amperex 7062 input with 6BL7GT(A) tubes hits the spot with the 650/Zu. Also, the Sylvania 5687 (extra points for gold pin) work quite nicely with the 650/Zu.

ought? add that to my spelling grievance list

heh, well tkam answered my question thanks ... it's nice to be here!

nate disregard my PM... nothing new there... time to experiment!
-
um, 560v? don't bother... i just tried it. I have a Stax cable that I'm going to put on them once I make sure they're not going back to Koss... I'm thinking about sending them in just for good measure before modding them
-
hey, why doesn't my PM outbox work? In fact, I'm not sure my PMs work at all ...
-
Al: I don't see how you have not bought the Koss ESP-950... man, those things are loud! They could easily double as computer speakers
-
wow... that's the worse picture I have ever taken ... it's like 80's dial-up porn quality... anyways, KG is right (of course) about the 620v bias with the Koss... much better...

-
nate: do you have the spec on this amp? just curious for purely reasons....
-
thanks Kevin! I'll put my externally adjustable bias to work I'm right at 600v now with ~2V offset... I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the bass... it really is insane.

I finished up my Franken-KGSS last night and wanted to thank everyone involved! I'm running right at 35 W (just over 12 mA per device * 350 V rails * 8 devices, compared to 24 W ? of Justin's KGSS and the 40 W plate dissipation of the KGBH) and it sounds amazing. I'll get pics up once life settles down. It also serves as a rather nice space heater, as if we Texans need those I've been listening with the Koss ESP-950 and want to reiterate what a special headphone these are... my only complaint at this point, is the ridiculous amount of bass ... that's compared to the HD-650s too... I've been futzing with my cartridge alignment, so that could be part of it, but still... reminds me a bit of the Denon D5000 (which is not a compliment). I'm going to add some gain on my phono stage and start tuning my system around the new addition, so I'll keep you guys updated. The nice thing is, my seperate psu is adjustable up to 500 V, so I can play with the KGBH as well!

i.e. here's a snippet: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/singlepower-sds-xlr-ordered-but-still-need-more-suggestions-269148/index5.html#post3429150

which is alot less complete than it used to be... a lot of stuff has been pulled. one of the people who have custom ordered an amplifier should be able to tell me, there is some sort of a selection guide. I've seen snippets of it around... Thanks though!

does anyone here have one of Singlepower's specification spreadsheets I could take a look at? The more options the better ...

cool! I preferred the 6BX7GT tubes as well in my other MPX3 SE models. Problem I'm finding with the SP stuff is that the guts vary so much that this further complicates the whole recommendation process For a lot of people, I think swapping some caps out here and there would make more of an improvement then chasing after some long forgotten tubes
-
well, it's all a preference thing really... My MPX3 SE is somewhat of a one-off to support this tube. It's in between the "high" and "low" options you see on all the MPX3's with switches in the back. This is where this tube is most comfortable. I think there was maybe one more "switch-less" MPX3 SE out there, I'm not sure though. On the regular high setting it's a bit slow and dark, so you'll have to choose your input tube with care. Amperex 7062 is a great choice, as is the 2c51. It really opens up the door for several input tubes that you may not have cared for with the 6BL7GTA and perhaps even with the 6BX7GT tubes. They are a bit challenging to find... but very possible. I've squirreled away a dozen or so, and know a guy who is sitting on stash of them but is too lazy to sort through them for me... There is a pair on the 'bay now, for what I'd consider an outrageous price... but they are construction matched pairs and from one of the more reputable Ebay dealers.

thanks Justin! just curious more than anything...

Justin: I noticed on KG's pictures that he has the Linear dually in place of the Toshiba. Are you going to be putting these in all the Blue Hawaii SE? Any thoughts on the relative merits of each?
