  1. my rule of thumb is nothing (except perhaps tube envelopes) should ever be 15-20C above ambient. If you live in the frozen north, maybe higher, but I live in Texas
  2. hm, $1000 is a really tough recommendation. I don't like the VPI Scout. I'd rather have a VPI HW-19 mk3 over the Scout... Anyways, I think for the $1k mark I'd go vintage with a custom plinth. Maybe a Lenco L75. There's one for $175 on Ebay, add a arm say Origin Live Silver or even a stock RB300 and then the rest for the restore... My $0.02...
  3. I believe they were released for the Genesis as well. edit: Amiga, Apple IIGS, Atari ST, Apple Macintosh, MS-DOS, Mega Drive/Genesis, Commodore 64, CD-i
  4. only thing that makes me not very excited about this is the following statement: "All 30 classic, re-mastered levels from Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle integrated into a new, extensive quest!" now, the 25 orbs is awesome, but I'm betting it will be a lot of rehashing the other two games. edit: I'm assuming you're hard-core enough to already be running the originals in an emulator on your PC, right?
  5. Spritzer probably go his information from me. They quoted me $100 for the arc + headpad, or $50 separately. Obviously the audiophile banter was the key here.
  6. dunno, I listened to the beta22 and my PPAv2 with the HD-650 and really think that it doesn't do them justice. Especially the highs, they're painfully bright and piercing, even for me. I've heard them on the Headamp amps as well and was equally unimpressed. Now, the 600s I think do better on solid state than the 650s, but I have to say I may be in the minority here then
  7. Just to throw something out there. Has anyone heard the 580/600/650 on a solid state amplifier that sounds half-way decent? I am about at the point where I'd almost say uncategorically that these 'phones need tubes.
  8. I got parts for a Japanese SR-007 without an serial number hassle. Just told him what I wanted after a few minutes of audiophile banter on the phone.
  9. why two bias supplies? why not either a single adjustable supply, or one supply plus a dropping resistor?
  10. I was guessing turntable setup items... all seemed to fit
  11. nate: I'm actually looking for it for another purpose other than electrostatics. This configuration is used by a few notable speaker manufacturers for internal wiring. If you happen to see something out there, I'd appreciate a heads up
  12. is it true when Mikhail was thinking about releasing an electrostatic amplifier that he contacted you for advise? This might just be urban legend... but seems like this is a reasonable place to clarify this.
  13. wow, this thread is turning into a Springer episode... anyways, if you're referring to the ES-1 the word "design" the most laughable verb you could have possibly used in that sentence. I can see why Kevin calls you a shill if you routinely spout out nonsense like this.
  14. does anyone know of a source of empty teflon tubing in a ribbon configuration, or a way to rig something up like this?
  15. sure... K701 comes to mind as a prime example.
  16. not that this isn't done at all in the realm of dynamic headphones...
  17. if you're referring to me, then I would like to set the record straight in that I whole heartedly agree with the above statement. Heck, if purk prefers the Pro to the SR-007, that's great. My first tongue in cheek comment really sums up how I feel about such comparisons though.
  18. sorry, it is about synergism. If not, they why not say that you like the Pro better than the OII unequivocally? I'd be fine with that statement.
  19. no, I understood your point. So you favor a synergistic combo over a lousy combo. I just don't see value in these types of comparisons. If you were comparing a combo that you personally find synergistic to another combo that a majority of people find synergistic, that would be one thing. I find syllogistic comparisons kinda annoying and they are often used in straw man arguments. [i hope I got that one right Dusty, feel free to correct and post that cute fighting kitty again ]
  20. Agreed. I'd take a Lamda Professional + BHSE over a OII + SRM-252A anyday.
  21. Hope you don't have 8 or so big output tubes in your rig, as that 12A can get eaten up real quick.
  22. a certain someone could throw some in with a certain cable
  23. fixed that for you
  24. at least it's already cryo'ed
