  6. obviously dude... grounding issues don't effect how the unit looks, or how much they paid for it...

  8. heh. I think the replies to this thread got lost at some point. Anyways, I'm still looking for a preamp project that can handle the above. I think the preamp I posted here: http://www.head-case.org/forums/speakers/2471-preamps-3.html#post73554 is probably the most accessible project out there. I agree with Kevin's comments but don't really know of a good project off hand that will address his design concerns and get me the specs I need. So, last call for projects!
  9. are you going to try and pitch correct it?

    Mono Magic!

There were so many pressings of "Time Out" you should be able to find a nice mono version. I found one at "Half Price Books", so it's definitely possible. Also, at least with classical, talk about massive bass that mono recordings have, and the clarity really comes with a nice mono cartridge.
  11. nope
  12. what makes you say this? Kinda a generic statement. I know people making lots of money in the NSA, for example. edit: aerius already dinged you on this one..
  13. what about 20th century music that was written in the style of the classical period, like Prokofieff's (I prefer Prokofiew for some reason, why is that?) Op. 25?
  14. i think this needs to be moved into the DDIY category...... wah? is right...

  19. anyways, sorry to derail the thread... my point being that Kevin is a smart guy and it's not like he doesn't know about any of the super-reg power supplies, and there is at least one case where a simple supply can sound better... soo...
  20. swapping out the transformer is no biggey and if there is a model that vt4c / "whatever the ebay seller is that's the same guy" sells, then it's cheaper and faster I bet you can find a dual 18 VAC or something that will work and get it shipped for around $50 or less.
  21. two sources are Kitamura Kiden and vt4c. The KKK [ ] transformers I've found NOS or pulls from Ebay or surplussupply.com. I've also contacted Custom Magnetics, Inc. but haven't really acted on anything yet. I really like the vt4c, but expect a 2-3 month wait on a custom job though. Their specs are also a bit liberal... I'd figure 80% current draw that they state and then subtract another 15% for safety margin. I'm talking on the order of 100VA or so, for oversized. For EI I've used various Hammond transformers... Here's the thread: diyAudio Forums - Finally, an affordable CD Transport: the Shigaclone story I'll be upfront and say I'm somewhat a Peter Daniel fan-boy :)
