  1. probably no one wants a running commentary here, as I've listened to them for all but 1 hour.. but.. they sound kinda "dynamicish", especially in the mid range. Not as much so as the ESP-950 and pretty much opposite of the SR-007. There's a lot of extension and it's reasonably controlled, which is a bit surprising. That's with the KGSS, we'll see what the BH does and it's pretty much built for extra oomph in the last octave or so. Things sound a bit recessed and the sound staging pretty much sucks.. by this I mean the center imaging I'm getting is between my ears, it's not really extending out much "in front of me". The other complaint is they sound a bit slow... attacks don't sound as well defined as they do with the either the SR-007 or ESP-950. Maybe they're just warming up
  2. I was expecting that they'd be easier to drive than they are. Volume with my KGSS is ~10% less than the SR-007. I cannot get a good seal at all with them. If I push the cups all the way down towards the floor it's not bad, but I still get leakage at the bottom of my ears, right between my jaw bone and and whatever is not hard that's behind my jaw bone ... deepak?
  3. I gots the He and am listening back and forth between my KGSS and BH... will report back later. What bias are they supposed to be played at? Obviously, since there is a Stax adapter they are okay with the Stax bias...
  4. are you still looking for a nice volume control? if so, check out the bent audio kits. Those would be probably one the best volume control you can find, the best probably being whatever Charles Hansen is putting in his new preamps
  5. no maybe tomorrow? let's hope...
  6. portable == hand-held battery powered source
  7. it was down for an hour and a half or so.. not that I care... really.... yes, reallly.
  8. ..
  9. Thanks guys! With any luck I'll finish up a conference proposal today and come home to last few parts needed for the Houston meet on Saturday!
  10. a bunch of Bantam boards ...
  11. insanity... FPE can go down to 0.5mm material remaining without marring the front. Add on another 0.5mm that is unusable due to the tap. That leaves a hair over 1.5mm remaining. Cue up some M2.5x.45 standoffs at Mouser that I'll use. I should get 3 useful threads. yay!
  12. leaving? I just got here. Once again, I'm anti-FOTM! I have three portable amps now.. PPAv2 with battery pack Millet Tube Hybrid Portable Baby Stax yay!
  13. Lamm is epic fail. even worse is their phono stage.
  14. you say that.. I was looking at some of the Hammond pricing and you can drop big bucks on them... $500 and up easily per transformer.
  15. But, that's 4-5 VRMS from input leg to input leg. So, in a four channel amp each board would see half that.
  16. x2 what nate said, and x1 on why would you want to do the above?
  17. is that a Jameco 4.7uF/500V cap in there (the first pic)?
  18. silver transformers is nothing compared to custom silver foil inductors.. pricing is crazy on both. Electra Print offers a nice partial silver stranded secondary (PSSS) transformer option here: Electra-Print.com Partial Silver Stranded Secondary Transformers .. not that I've been considering it or anything
  19. doesn't the center stretch more than the sides, as it travels further?
  20. nope, it doesn't matter how the primaries are configured, you can get the same amount of the current and voltage out of the secondaries. That's the beauty of universal primaries.
  21. ...only problem using this on a design is that it basically means all 220V people are out of luck But, it's nice to be able to rearrange some wires and get double the voltage output,
  22. Nate: Did you ever post the other psu schematic? I'd rather like to take a look at it, if possible.
  23. ah, the menacing popcorn smiley... oh course, if someone got a hold of it and used 220V, that would be really exciting
  24. Hey, I was thinking about using the 220 taps on the primary side here in the US in order to half the voltage on the secondary side of a transformer. Can anyone think of any reason not to do this?
  25. so, what's a piece of gear with a 2SJ109V in it worth? infinite?
