Seems that there are some new discount coupons at Newark, I'm not sure how many of you regularly use these. This is one of the better ones I've seen. Coupon code is WR0509 and it's valid online for 25% off.
  2. well, they had the 1" ones at least. I'll try those and see how they fit tonite. I'm glad I checked this place out, pretty cool little store.
  3. yeah, amazingly enough I haven't hit any of the local stores here in Austin... Just found one that's on my way to where I need to drop off some aluminum to get cut, so that's perfect.
  4. does anyone happen to have any #6-32 x 7/8" or #6-32 x 1" socket heat screws? Preferably alloy or black oxide. I'm going to try Lowe's tomorrow, but I'm not quite sure if they carry this sort of thing or not... I need 8.
  5. If you go down this route, let's talk.
  6. damping factor is 80. Here's a pic of the 1 ohm performance from NP:
  7. bought some too...
  8. 1 ohm soft clips at +- 10A
  9. I think the Seas Excel W15CY001 would be a good thing to compare with the 15W. Which did you get, the 8530K00?
  10. oooh I want in. What are we buying?
  11. Looky looky, K1000 impedance graph:
  12. The bolts that secure the output devices is right at 61C.
  13. not too bad. I can hold indefinitely one of the fins that is right over one of the output devices. I'll track down my thermocouple. I'm probably going to leave it this way, because A.) Steve is planning for this to primarily power the K1000 (I have no idea what the impedance of these things drops down to, but it cannot be too low) and B.) those trim pots are impossible to get to, so I have the heat sink tipped up on it's side, which hinders convection and I'll probably need to readjust later anyways. The variac came in very handy. I was able to adjust the output of the unregulated CRC supply to the nominal +-24V, which wouldn't have been possible otherwise since I'm only running a single channel at the moment.
  14. well, Steve I got one channel up and simmering now. Probably have 1-2 hour wait until I'm happy with the bias. I'm right at 1.3A on this side and will probably push it a bit more. I have a 1 ohm test load waiting and willing to make this thing sweat, plus this is the only way Spritzer's ears will perk up
  15. bolts from McMaster-Carr and an open-box variac from Fry's.
  16. no, there are much easier ways. Like have children. I can get all sorts of liquids past TSA.
  17. I suppose you didn't see my F4 in the other pictures. In fact, Steve's build is very compact. The boards are very small.. It's just the caps and toroid that are large. I think it's quite the nice size actually. 148,000uF is about the minimum here, given the current demands of the circuit and the fact that it's just a simple CRC supply.
  18. compare to $MOAR here: http://www.sophiaelectric.com/pages/parts/socket_ring.htm
  19. I dunno about impressions at this meet. Steve was impressed by the current FOTM-ness of short skirts... other than that, I don't remember many. Your avatar did come up though, as well as a HD800 sighting...
  20. heh, yeah it works just fine, but I had to fine tune a few parts to also support all the way down to the low bias phones. No need to cut traces, etc. though I looked at my original prototype and the values were right there... RTFM Fired up Als and it was at like 1050 V or something and I was worried my meager 1kV meter was going to go before I had time to grab the trimmer and stop turning.. Obviously, I couldn't just turn it off, way less exciting that way.
  21. with regard to the F5, well this was a case of double fail... The BOM at tech-diy had a pair of parts reversed, *and* the AudioExpress article did as well. What are the chances? I figured something was up when I first saw things, but decided to check both of these places to be absolutely sure Anyways, parts are off and ready to be swapped... now I think I'm going to count my lucky stars that nothing blew up and go by some insurance.. a variac at Fry's
  22. Asshat is rather generous. We reserve the term jagbag for situations like this.
  23. What's the price difference between Rinkya and Craig's outfit? I've had excellent results with Rinkya and don't really mind the costs, especially if you keep abreast of their sales and promos. Plus, with Rinkya you can use your own Yahoo Japan account, which is very nice.
  24. here's a few I found. I need 1/4" diameter, by 3" long (minimum). Both are SS:
  25. Steve, looking at bolts for my awesome front panels. I've found chrome carriage bolts, as well as these bolt covers for a standard hex bolt anything else "dressy" that I should look at?
