  1. It might be easy to forget here , but it is possible to have a great musical experience on mid-fi gear as well. Compared to my other phones, I don't think too highly about my DT 770, but it has been several times at work that I have been so impressed by the Pico/DT770 combo that I had to stop working and just listen for a few minutes. My exposure to real hi-end is very low, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.
  2. For the first time in about 8 years I played football (or soccer to most of you) with some collegues at work. It didn't go very well, after about 15 minutes I got a complete achilles tendon rupture in the right foot. I wasn't even playing very hard, just kicked the ball away from the goal. And I was sooo looking forward to play football again. Untill the operation on Wednesday I shall do as little as possible, just keep my foot high. It will take some 8 - 10 weeks with easy going and crutches to get well. The good thing is that it will be completly healed, but I'm afraid I will be bored long before that happens. Luckily I got a lot of unread books. And my sister will finally send me those Grados she bought me. Maybe it is the time to start the DIY thing? I need a better powersupply for the Squeezebox and Stax 252 amp. I guess Sigma 11 should be a good choice?
  3. Tracking is important! Several years ago, before Ipods where big (right after the stone age), I bought a Neuros mp3 player, and since where ever I bought it from didn't ship to Norway, I used a company here that gives me an American address, and resends the package. Luckily the package was tracked and weighted during the whole trip, because all I got was an empty box. Due to the tracking info it was easy to see that that content was stolen somewhere between New Jersey and Norway (by Pirates of the Atlantic, I guess). I was refundend by the reshipping company, but without the weighting part I guess I would have a hard time to convince someone that the package was empty. If there is such a reshipper that serves Israel that might be a bit safer since a third party is responsible for the shipping from USA to the destination. Now if I could get an American credit card to go with my NJ address, I could buy (digital) music from hdtracks and Amazon...
  4. Happy birthday!
  5. To complete the first lesson in Nordic languages, here it is in Norwegian: brennevin (used as a generic term) akevitt Sk
  6. Fixed it for you
  7. Even in Iceland, you wouldn't give beer to a 4 y.o.? Besides they don't like beer.
  8. I can agree to that. If there is a meet in Iceland I will strongly consider to come. But I guess I will have to bring the family, so downtown 6am is most likly long gone
  9. The first thing that hit me during the concert was how important the bass player are to Einstuerzende Neubautens music. In many ways he keeps it all toghether (not unlike John Entwistle did to the Who). I have never thought of that when I have listen to their records, but I like good bass players and this might be one of the reasons I like them so much. They played 2 sets roughly equal to a cd (a double cd-r of the show was available after the concert) + 2 encore "sets", the first quite long, but they sure took their time to get back on stage. They naturally played a lot of stuff from their last album, Alles Wieder Offen, which I haven't heard yet. But they also played a few song from previous albums. Among other a quiet and beautiful version of "Ich Gehe Jetz" (1st encore), "Dead Friends" and "Die Befindlichkeit Des Landes". Of course there was a lot of various steel instruments as can be expected from a band exploring the borders between noise and music. Out of context a lot of the "instruments" would have made noise, but in my opinion they are definatly in the land of music. It might be a habbit, but Blixa and the bass player was barefoot.
  10. My first concert in many years was Einsturzende Neubauten last night. Fantastic concert and more "noisy" than their latest albums. Nice to see how they make a lot of their sounds.
  11. I'm in a hurry, but try Google cache. they save an awful lot of pages
  12. Happy birthday both of you
  13. I shall not provide Fitz link, but I got this http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=11337 one. Replaced stock cpu fan with a very slow 120 mm case fan above the cpu. In addition to the motherboard the server got a 3,5" + 2 x 2,5" disks, 1GB ram and a 12V 80W picoPSU-80.

    The Menace

Yesss, he is givin in, it is "no stats" all over again. Ohh, and to save some work you can outsource the internal wiring to you know who.
  15. I guess shipping cost will be a lot less also, since a case will be heavy and bulky compared to mounted pcbs.
  16. All this talk of beta makes me hungry (for a beta). Anyone have any experience with http://www.sft-audio.url.tw/BETA22/beta22.html? For us with limited solder experience this seems like the cheap way. I know there will be a lot of addons for case and connectors and whatever, but that will be another kind of money
  17. My two previous laptops was T series Thinkpads. I miss them.
  18. Squeezebox is a good idea, you can later add a better dac or use the squeezebox in another room. I have both the Pico and a Stax 2050 (and a Squeezebox). I have not heard the HD650, but if I where to choose between Pico / DT880 and Stax 2050 I would take the Stax. The Pico is very good, my DT770 got a new life after I got the Pico, but it has some "problems" with handling more power hungry headphones and I do believe HD650 is among them. Hmm, a Pico would go nice with the Stax (but that will blow your budget a bit ....), more choices.
  19. Wireless mouse is the only option for the living room mini mac. With rechargeable batteries it is a little less annoying. For anything else I prefer wired.
  20. My dad is in need for a simple back-up solution and a wireless base station. I only found the time capsule as an all-in-one solution. Is really Apple the only producer of such a box? He uses windows (on a Thinkpad (r -series?)), anyone knows if the time capsule will work properly as both a wireless switch and a backup solution?
  21. I have been running Debian on Via for the last 6 years on my home server (recently upgraded to low power C7). Pure gold.
  22. done
  23. I feel old and voted for the 80's. Actual reason is that I currently play a lot of 80's record and they are good. If I had a techno kick (KLF, FSOL, Orb ++) I would have gone for the 90's. Beat Farmers anyone?
  24. Happy Birthday!
