  1. So very sad. RIP...thoughts to the fallen, the families and prayers the lost will be found. We lived in Jakarta for a year and half in 1997 - 1998 and our first boy was conceived during a dive trip off of Sulawesi...amazing place with 14,000-17,000 islands depending on the tide. It was also our first evacuation...started burning the malls after high sulfur diesel prices were raised post deal with the IMF. Lovely people and it was a simpler time before 9/11... HS
  2. While waiting to have my Omega FOIS "gifted" to me for X-mas I had a weak moment and pre-ordered one of these. It is a Baltic Aquascaphe in the blue sun ray dial with gilt finish. A retro inspired divewatch. Nothing too fancy, but it caught my eye. Pre-ordered so I won't see it until mid-next year. A "micro brand" assembled in France. I ordered it with both the tropical style rubber strap and the "beads of rice" 316L bracelet. I like that they're quick release for an easy swap. Double domed sapphire crystal and sapphire bezel. Good for 200M, but I would never dive that deep...i find most the fun stuff is above 100' and generally 20-40'. I don't dive that often these days so this is more about the aesthetic including the 39mm sizing. The movement is a Miyota 9039 automatic with a 42 hr reserve. Reliable, basic and helps keep the case at a relatively thin 12mm. I've been spending like a sailor at port in Bangkok... HS
  3. RIP, Donald and Penny. Tough time of the year for family and friends. HS
  4. RIP, George Sr. You were my most respected president in my lifetime and you will be missed. I hope you and Barbara are sipping coffee on a porch up in the sky and providing some inspiration to a time and place that has much to improve upon... And I should add, my sincere apologies for not having passed on sincere condolences to all those that lost loved ones during this season. For some reason I have not had the heart to come into this thread of late. No excuses. HS
  5. It was only a matter of time. X-mas gift to me... I expect the wifey will make me let her wrap it up. She loves to make me suffer...LOL. Already thinking on a brown alligator strap with proper Omega deployment buckle... Self control is overrated. HS
  6. That looks like a hoot! Talk about a built for a specific application vehicle... HS
  7. RIP, Alex. My sincere condolences, Brent. HS
  8. Well, I ran my favorite event, The Texas Mile (standing Mile), last weekend for the first time since parting out my beloved blue 2009 Challenger...Old School. The Demon did well for what she is. Had some colorful top of the track moments as after the half mile the front end would swing left to right increasingly as speeds increased. Drag racing suspension. Thought the “Sport” setting would address the excitement but not so much. Finally...found the fix in the “Street” suspension mode...don’t ask. Couldn’t explain it if I tried but I was grateful as I could finally enjoy the full passes. Following are a few pics. vroom vroom... HS
  9. Monoprice does a reasonably good job of providing value for money. I doubt it would meet the expectations of many Stax aficionados here, but I bet the value for money is reasonable. Build quality is hit and miss with them, but by the look of it in the pics it's not too shabby. HS
  10. LOL. I hope that's the back but it's so damn good looking you might just wear it that way... HS
  11. So Hennessey has quite the reputation. He actually sold out and is now "consulting" or the like. Lots of legal cases against him going years back but that is what it is. More relevant, $160K or so for that car...LOL! No way. I can get that Trackhawk to go faster and handle well for a LOT less money. I just won't have the fancy stitching on the headrests which isn't all bad HS EDIT: allow me to be more specific. With my car I can swap upper and lower pulleys (so think supercharger pulley being smaller...the upper and the lower being the balancer on the crank shaft) to spin the blower and make more boost. I would upgrade the fuel injectors to allow for add'l fuel for the add'l boost and dynamic compression...more stuff and higher pressure creating a bigger bang at the top of the engine stroke/spark plug firing). The fuel pumps can be upgraded or you can add something I've got mixed feelings about called a boost-a-bump inexpensively. Add a small nitrous setup for a "wet shot" which means you add add'l fuel as you add nitrous. The transmission should hold as is at say a 9.0 second quarter mile w/o issue. Swap out the mid-pipes (exhaust) for catless (remove catalytic converters or at least put high flow ones in) and tuning to support the additional power/mojo. I'd say all this for $10K to be overly conservative and outrun that Jeep all day long and repeatedly. Voila...
  12. God bless ya...LOL! My old car was a bit heavier with all the safety equipment and had a serious motor and twin turbos. Ran 8's with the incorrect gearing (it was wired for the standing mile). This bone stock Demon with way too much fancy stuff like Scandinavian leather runs 10's. Supercharged car but about half the power at the rear wheel...maybe 60%. Won't ever see 8's unless I decide to do bad things to something too pretty. 7's with a chassis this heavy would mean gutting the car hard and then going serious power. HS
  13. I finally got the Demon out to the track. Only a few passes in before the rain came. Running the Nitto OEM drag radials and the track prep at this annual event is what it is, but fun all the same. Great bunch of people for the most part. A lot of show cars run so street tires and poor track prep make for a lot of wheel slip... C'est la vie... Some friends of mine shot this pretty cool slow motion shot so I could learn from the pass...off a phone. Boy I'm getting old but have to love the tech... HS
  14. RIP Mr. Lederman and Mrs. Caballe... HS
  15. Interesting albeit a bit quirky history of Nissan. Would have loved to see more about the earlier cars. HS
  16. Without words....LOL HS
  17. Please accept my condolences, Craig. RIP, Ms. Sue... Sam
  18. I fully expect alligator will be pricey regardless of where I purchase it. I very much like the idea of an Omega deployment strap on a brown/cognac alligator strap on that Speedy. It's going to happen... HS
  19. ER, I think I have my next watch in mind. Have been wanting a Speedy for a long time. The FOIS scratches the itch given the sub-40mm size, but the strap does nothing for me. So I'm thinking a brown alligator strap with an Omega deployment buckle would be what tips me over the edge. Can your man make something like this? https://www.jean-rousseau.com/shop/watch-strap-alligator-3-5-vintage-brown/7809-alligator-vintage-brown This is the idea, but not the purple so much... HS
  20. For those that don't know Drag Week....amazing event that attracts competitors from around the world. Can't make this stuff up... HS
  21. I do that with cars but then parking becomes problematic... HS
