  1. Payment sent for USPS flat rate shipping. Thank you!
  2. I'm seriously considering going, but I have so much other stuff going on that it'll probably be a last-minute decision.
  3. Let's assume for a second @DJS really did design all that hardware, and is not just trolling here. (Given the personal attacks he posted, I'm not convinced — what company allows its staff to behave like this in public, while representing that company? No comms department would allow someone like this off its apron strings.) The stat amp features a questionable design and shoddy assembly. The DAC shares the same build quality. What about the DAC's design? And does it actually work well?
  4. Matching NPNs to PNPs is generally difficult. I'm guessing it will be sufficient to match NPNs and PNPs separately, i.e., get the 1156es close enough to each other and 2752s close enough. It should be possible to get to sets of 3% or better. Dumb question: what is PP on the silkscreen? And why two separate input blocks? If each board represents one polarity of a balanced channel, I'd expect just one input, just like there is just one output.
  5. Should the output devices be matched?
  6. I remember going over mwl168's BOM after making my own, and it's accurate. I used different caps in a few places, and RN60D resistors everywhere that doesn't explicitly need something high-power. Other than that, you should be good to go with the information in this thread.
  7. Did you ever find a vector or even raster file of the old Stax logo? Must admit I prefer it to the current one.
  8. I know, but I was wondering if the input voltage would be adequate.
  9. Interesting. And tempting. I don't have room for another transformer in the case. Would the 16-0-16 VCT 500mA winding I currently use to power the 7815/7915 be adequate to drive the GRLV for +/-15V outputs?
  10. Is the noise difference measurable? I have enough room in my Carbon to add a GRLV, but wonder if it's worth the hassle.
  11. Just looked at the specs on the Bricasti M1... I guess I see how that could work. What kind of cable do you use with the Utopia for this? Something custom which splits into two 3-pin female XLR connectors?
  12. Under $2000, provided you (1) already have all the tools you need, (2) use an inexpensive volume control, and (3) keep your casework modest. (I did none of the above.)
  13. Looks like you're running it from the audio jack of your laptop? Congratulations on your build and extra points for ignoring the DAC insanity!
  14. That actually looks neat! While we're on the subject of eBay and Stax jacks, though, did anyone try these? http://m.ebay.com/itm/Stax-Headphones-Kopfhorer-Earspeaker-Normal-Bias-Socket-Jack-Chassis-Panel-Mount-/262649769923?nav=SEARCH I am looking for a normal bias jack.
  15. I'd like 3 working Alpha pots, unless the Dynalo mini board switches to use TKDs (which I think I'll have enough of after the last GB clears). If we go with Alphas, I don't mind buying extras to increase the probability of getting a solid yield.
  16. Since I often listen at fairly low levels, I look for low-volume imbalance in volume pots. I noticed that my quad TKD 601s behave as follows: - 10k: no noticeable imbalance (sample size: 1 build) - 50k: imbalance up to 8 o'clock (sample size: 2 builds) FWIW, I hear no imbalance on an RK50 (sample size: 1 build). Given that 8 o'clock is quieter than I typically listen to, the amount of imbalance on some TKDs is not a big deal. That said, I much prefer not to have it at all. How does the quad Alpha fare?
  17. No objections from me.
  18. Looks excellent. I'm in for 3 mini Dynalo boards.
  19. I'm sure 2oz copper will be fine.
  20. Nice!! Bring it to the next Bay Area mini-meet.
  21. This is fantastic! Time for a mini-Dynalo board group buy?
