Hi Birgir, Here is what Kevin stated on the I'm on a roll thread Post #582 "Whether you run the output at 450v or 500v, you still need about 625 vdc unregulated for the bias regulator. So 485 vac (center tap is better but not required) is the target input voltage" Thoughts please before I order. Les

Got a price from Paul for the KGSSHV, 2 x 485 @ 130ma and 16-0-16 @500ma Price 85GBP and as much again for shipping to NZ. Quality is what I am after so one pays. Les

Direct ordering is an option I noted from their site. Being US based I bet shipping will be a killer but worth a try.

Thanks Nopants Les

The lsk389 is supposed to be better than the PMBFJ620. is this difference really significant. As I will have to buy the 389 from Trendsetter and with Postage to NZ will cost me $35 per Transistor. Is it really worth paying that?. Thanks Les

Which make of Traffo are you talking about Craig?. Ive seen the Polish one and Sumr. Sumr seems to be mentioned as having failures and Buzzing. How bad this is the $64000 question. Be great to know just how many of Sumr transformers are good. Is it just that Richard has had the Lions share and that's why we are seeing these come up more often.

If we are talking about the KGSSHV traffo then I would be interested. Would need him to send to NZ, no need for double handling eh.

Thanks Birgir

Be interested to hear Pauls response as I was about to contact him.

Thanks Kevin, I want to get one made and hopefully they will better understand. Thinking of going to the UK where Craig Sawyers went. Les
-
Thanks Guys, So when Kevin says for the KGSSHV traffo: i spec'd 100 ma per high voltage winding, just in case you want to turn the bias up a bit. Is this Dc or AC draw?. Les

How risky is it using 2sc4686 instead of the A version in a Offboard kgsshv as I want to stay with the 4686's if possible. Thanks Les

Hi Craig, Nice to see you active again. Re transformers, iam currently building the KGSSHV and I see SumR Transformers are questionable(reliable). I am not sure I want to go this path(have his T2 ones). Thinking of going the path you did with Paul. Can you offer any extra specs I should state to help ensure a long life from the Traffo?. Thanks Les

Hi, I am in for one set. Thanks Les

S_r, I have a set of these boards, if interested pm me. Les

Thanks all, Got me a HAP-S1B and very happy with it. Heavy little buggar though. Les

Thanks to all who chipped in. I am now thinking of going the DSD way. Blessingx: The Sony HAP-Z1-ES is nice but out of my price range presently. Just finishing the T2 and with the purchase of Stax 007 the wallet is pretty lean. The cheaper player you referred to was it the HAPS1B?.Looks like my best choice. Torpedo: Thanks for the list of DSD sources, didn't realize so much was available on DSD. Les

postjack: I can get a second hand S2000 for US$1120 and a 103 for US$540. Thanks for all the comments, reason to consider the 103 was looking to Pure Audio if it ever takes off. Les

Hi Guys, Just venturing into sacd and have the option of buying either of the above. Not into video side just Audio. All comments appreciated. Budget limited at present. The s2000 came out in 2007 and the age worries me. Valid or not?. Technology changes rapidly these days. Thanks Les

Just finished my two boards and wanted to say thanks to Kevin/Kerry and stv1756 for their valued contributions. Assembly was straight forward and for a guy with buggared eye sight the 1206 smd were great. My pair are for my T2 and will be balanced arrangement. The code worked well and absolutely thrilled. This is my 3rd KG project that's worked first time and above expectation. Les

Thanks

In the power supply the mod that was added, .1uf in series with the 10k between the voltage reference and the OP27 what type and voltage rating did you use for it. Thanks
-
Thanks, Must remember to include in my next order. Better than trying to fit two resistors. Les
-
Thanks Kevin, I'll change to two then. Les

On Kevin's original pcb R11 was a 490K single .5watt. I notice on the next revision board this was a 250k in series with a 240k. Was there a problem with the single resistor setup. Thanks Les
