HD650 scalability?
At $2k a pop, they are definitely a passing fad for me.

What are you listening to Part the Third
This one is totally uncompressed or filtered. So far, no problems and it's hit some big moments.

Thanks Antonio. Now I've moved on to the 1978 Telarc "Special Edition Audiophile Recording (Imported Pressing)" pressing of Frederick Fennell and the Cleveland Symphonic Winds playing: Holst: Suite No. 1 in E-flat, Suite No. 2 in F Handel: Music for the Royal Fireworks Back: Fantasia in G

The analog thread.
I have no youtube video, but here is a picture of my turntable playing "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown". I played it first because it's the album that would hurt the least to have damaged, but it's playing fine. Also, I like the album a lot more than when I heard it last. This is the first vinyl I've spun since 1985. This is also the first test of the phono pre-amp. I bought a used Anthem Int-1 integrated amp in 1996 or 1997. It didn't have the phono pre-amp option. Later (probably 2000ish), I bought the kit and a H/W engineer at Cisco installed it for me. The system sounds great, so he did a good job! Here is my complete analog system: Joseph Audio RM7si Signature loudspeakers Anthem Int-1 with phono pre-amp VPI - HW-19 Junior turntable Origin Live modified RB-250 tone arm Reson Reca cartridge with new Goldring DV42 stylus]

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown This is the first vinyl I've spun since 1985. My "new" turntable setup sounds pretty good though it's weird to hear the occasional pop. At least this album will up my obscurity level.

More Hipster Than Though, the obscurity pissing contest.
See, even Queen is obscure here.

More Hipster Than Though, the obscurity pissing contest.
Bob Dylan had a 21.6% obscurity value in Jacob's report. That pretty much says everything.

The analog thread.
I bought a replacement stylus for my Reson Reca cartridge. Thanks to help from Doug in Scotland, I got a pretty good deal from a UK only vendor. The stylus arrived today so now all I have to do is remove the old stylus and install the new one. However, I've never done this before. It looks like the styli should just slide on and off. Before I wreck a second stylus, would anybody care to offer advice and what to look out for? Do I have to unmount the cartridge or can I do this with it mounted on the arm? Thanks in advance for your advice. Edit: Never mind. I found the Goldring 1042 instruction manual online (the Reson Reca is a modified 1042) and it's now pretty clear how to do it.

Now for something different...
"Higher cost equals better" is deeply ingrained in Americans (maybe in most humans). Remember the studies that show people would prefer a wine based on higher cost? Here are a couple of references. Caltech Stanford business school While Ray may not be much of an amp designer (electrically), he is an excellent amp marketer/salesman and definitely exploits the HCEB human nature. Ipodpj tried to do it but isn't at all in Ray's class as a marketer.

Now for something different...
This is borrowed from Johnny Carson. Of course, he probably borrowed it from somebody else. I believe it should be written as "Dewey, Cheatum and Howe". That way, they are real last names. It would be great to find a real legal firm with that name.

Fuck in snow
Yesterday, I did a motorcycle ride on the ridge road in the hills (3200') behind Santa Barbara. It was cold here in SB the night before and we got a little rain. Still, I was very surprised to see some snow on the north-facing slopes along along the way. I was about 40 during the ride and a balmy 60 back in SB.
