  1. It's down to 61 here today. Really cute pictured. Congrats on your anniversary Tom. Sorry about you pain, Haj.
  2. While I'm "Extreme"ly happy with my HD800, I'll be happy to give it a try. I'm assuming that since you tried many different materials and thicknesses, that the mod is easily reversible? Otherwise, you went though a lot of pairs of HD800s. Edit: Actually, I'm "Menace"ly happy, though "Lite"ly.
  3. Tyll, what amp were you using for your listening tests of the HD800?
  4. Happy Birthday Ryan. I'd wish you a great one, but that goes without saying this weekend. Enjoy!
  5. Thanks. I'll try to find my stylus brush or buy one. I also need to get some rice paper inner sleeves. Some of mine are in desperate shape from just sitting around for 30+ years. To answer your question, I now really only play Diamond Mine in Bejeweled. It's perfect for my ADD. I usually keep an instance of Bejeweled minimized. Then, when I'm bored doing something on the computer, I just play a quick game of Diamond Mine and then I'm back to whatever I was doing.
  6. I'll be happy to answer the question if you'll suggest a record solution for a Disk Doctor machine and also suggest a stylus cleaning setup.
  7. Certainly that doesn't stop you. You have many friends here who would be happy to buy them for you and ship them to Iceland. I'm sure a certain amp designer does it all the time.
  8. Thanks! I got mine in 1979 in Tucson, AZ.
  9. Somebody was watching the food channel. I lost interest when they went to Canadian bacon.
  10. Yes, it matches well. I'm very happy with my setup. I've had mine since 1996 and have found no reason to "upgrade" them. Well, I am tempted by the new x-over but don't want to ship my speakers to NY. No problem. I'll just take pictures and measurements and then you can make me one. Folks, one of the things I bought was a "real" record cleaner, a Disk Doctor. It's been sitting unused for 12 years or so and most of the cleaning fluid has evaporated or leaked away. Should I just order more, or could any of you possibly recommend something better?
  11. Heart Dreamboat Annie (Nautilus Half Speed Master)
  12. At $2k a pop, they are definitely a passing fad for me.
  13. This one is totally uncompressed or filtered. So far, no problems and it's hit some big moments.
  14. Thanks Antonio. Now I've moved on to the 1978 Telarc "Special Edition Audiophile Recording (Imported Pressing)" pressing of Frederick Fennell and the Cleveland Symphonic Winds playing: Holst: Suite No. 1 in E-flat, Suite No. 2 in F Handel: Music for the Royal Fireworks Back: Fantasia in G
  15. I have no youtube video, but here is a picture of my turntable playing "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown". I played it first because it's the album that would hurt the least to have damaged, but it's playing fine. Also, I like the album a lot more than when I heard it last. This is the first vinyl I've spun since 1985. This is also the first test of the phono pre-amp. I bought a used Anthem Int-1 integrated amp in 1996 or 1997. It didn't have the phono pre-amp option. Later (probably 2000ish), I bought the kit and a H/W engineer at Cisco installed it for me. The system sounds great, so he did a good job! Here is my complete analog system: Joseph Audio RM7si Signature loudspeakers Anthem Int-1 with phono pre-amp VPI - HW-19 Junior turntable Origin Live modified RB-250 tone arm Reson Reca cartridge with new Goldring DV42 stylus]
  16. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown This is the first vinyl I've spun since 1985. My "new" turntable setup sounds pretty good though it's weird to hear the occasional pop. At least this album will up my obscurity level.
  17. See, even Queen is obscure here.
  18. Bob Dylan had a 21.6% obscurity value in Jacob's report. That pretty much says everything.
  19. I bought a replacement stylus for my Reson Reca cartridge. Thanks to help from Doug in Scotland, I got a pretty good deal from a UK only vendor. The stylus arrived today so now all I have to do is remove the old stylus and install the new one. However, I've never done this before. It looks like the styli should just slide on and off. Before I wreck a second stylus, would anybody care to offer advice and what to look out for? Do I have to unmount the cartridge or can I do this with it mounted on the arm? Thanks in advance for your advice. Edit: Never mind. I found the Goldring 1042 instruction manual online (the Reson Reca is a modified 1042) and it's now pretty clear how to do it.
  20. "Higher cost equals better" is deeply ingrained in Americans (maybe in most humans). Remember the studies that show people would prefer a wine based on higher cost? Here are a couple of references. Caltech Stanford business school While Ray may not be much of an amp designer (electrically), he is an excellent amp marketer/salesman and definitely exploits the HCEB human nature. Ipodpj tried to do it but isn't at all in Ray's class as a marketer.
  21. Happy Birthday!
  22. This is borrowed from Johnny Carson. Of course, he probably borrowed it from somebody else. I believe it should be written as "Dewey, Cheatum and Howe". That way, they are real last names. It would be great to find a real legal firm with that name.
  23. Sorry about the stomach problems Haj and the long work hours, Al. Congrats to Claire on getting tenured.
  24. No, kosher. How else do you make a kosher bacon double cheeseburger?
  25. What? You've never seen Gandalf dance before?
