Does it happen every time, or just occasionally? If the latter, you could have afib. Hopefully the doctors will be able to quickly determine the problem and help you get things right again.

Last Friday, I had lunch with Augsburger and Zippy. Then I visited my sister next door in Thousand Oaks First we went to CostCo. They had no cable modems. Walmart was just across the street so we checked there. They had what I wanted, but it was at the online price. I asked about price matching and the manager seemed confused by the question. Eventually he decided that Walmart does price match but doesn't include any on line prices, including Amazon. Saturday evening I order a Motorola SB6121 from Amazon for $77.44 with free shipping. It arrived today. Tomorrow, I'll call Cox and swap the modems out. Thanks everybody for your advice.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was talking a one-off box for your personal use, not a new product. Starting with a kit and enhancing that might be a way to do it quickly. I understand that you probably don't have time for something like this, but I had to ask.

I have another idea, Justin. Why don't you design and build such a DAC? I'm sure that you can find some good starting points out there. It also would be more impressive if, when someone asked "what's that great sounding DAC", you could say it's something that you cooked up. I realize that this wouldn't happen overnight. You could always buy an inexpensive solution to use until yours is ready.

The SB6121 is on the list. I'm going to Costco tomorrow anyway so will check for a modem there. If they don't have anything appropriate, I'll probably order the SB6121 from Amazon.

I have a cable modem that has the feature of a "land line" phone. I'm not using the phone and am tired of paying for it. I can cancel the feature but then have to supply my own cable modem. I plan on buying a modem that supports Docsis 3. Can anybody recommend for or against any particular brands or models? Thanks in advance for your advice.

We'll see. I haven't heard back from them yet. From doing a google search, this wood is either "Bee wood" or Manikara. Edit: Just got an email from my friend. He and his wife will "puzzle it out". For me, the problem more was deciphering the hand-written words (i.e. determine the letters of the word). They'll be able to do that.
