Yes. I first heard the combo at MOA3. Why did you? Edit: Oops, it wasn't the DSHA-1 that I was thinking of, it was the prototype Black Diamond (I think) amp. The DSHA-1 is better than the BD and plays in the same league as the L-2 I think. Unfortunately, I've never heard them side by side so I could be wrong. No matter, the DSHA-1 is still an excellent match for the HD800.

Doug, what is their life expectancy?

If somebody gave me $15K to get an amp for my HD800s with the proviso that I must return all unspent money and could not ever sell the amp, I'd buy an L-2. I might try to get Doug to do a one-off "L-2 SE", but would get an L-2. Fortunately, I have a DSH-1 and it's right up there.

That's what I've done. I rarely listen to my other headphones.

Whether you get a scooter or a motorcycle, be sure to get real protective gear. In other words, get a real full-face helmet, riding suit of some kind, gloves and boots. I think a poncho would have a tendency to leak at the bottom. Of course, if you meant a guy named Pancho to keep you warm in the rain, that might work.

All of Doug's current amps are balanced, except for a couple of prototypes. The HD800 sounds great with either the L-2 or DSHA-1. Try to get a prototype or look for a used unit. Todd's asking price for his L-2 was down to $1300 or $1400 before he auctioned it off. I doubt that you would be able to find a better production amp for the HD800 than the L-2 at any price.

I hoped for another Tyll gem of a review.
