Nate isn't punishing you. We really delete very few threads here. Yours isn't close to meriting deletion. My advice, probably worth about what your are paying for it, is to just forget about this and move on. Everybody else will.

A sign of what an old dinosaur I've become musically is that they are the only two bands/acts that I recognize.

Congrats Peter! Yay for having heat, Nate.

I'm a taking woodworking class and my project is to build a turntable stand. Would anyone have recommendations for furniture spikes? They need to be adjustable (leveling) and be able to support at least 150 lbs. I'm building it out of white oak and the legs and shelves weigh about 80 lbs. I'm thinking of something like this from Dayton, but am open to other suggestions.

Or UCSB? It doesn't have the prestige as the aforementioned institutions but the weather is a hell of a lot better than all of them.

Shelly, I pretty much agree with all the advice you have received. As I'm not sure of that, I decided to Google "Batteries in the washing machine" to see what came up. There are many links, but a post in this one made this suggestion: "I would call the poision control center and see what they can tell you: 1-800-222-1222" The person did and this was the response: "Thanks. I just called and I was told to wash the clothes a couple times, and they should be safe and that the problem is that the alkaline in the battery can cause a burn, but after washing the clothes a few times, it should get out and be safe to wear." It's funny, most of the people were worried whether or not the batteries were still good and not about the clothes or washer.

I like the Hamilton better than your Rolexes. Of course, I've never like the Rolex look.

Thanks for the advice, Nate. I retested this morning and all 8 tubes passed with no bright, white flashing. Two of them still blinked during the K shorts test, but I won't worry about that now. I told the seller about this and that the tubes were all acceptable. I also was able to solve another problem today. The fuse blew, probably due to contact cleaner in the volume pot. That was a couple of weeks ago. I removed the fuse and put the holder back into the upright tube that holds the fuse. Without a fuse, I managed to jam holder in the tube. I was finally able to remove it today with the help of WD40 and a paper clip, that I straightened and put a small hook on the bottom. A new fuse is now installed. I'll install the tubes tomorrow and see how everything works. Edit: Installed the JJ's and gave it a try. My systems is now playing the beautiful, beautiful music again.

Well, my matched octet of EL84 tubes arrived today. The first thing I did with them is run them through my Jackson 658A tester. On initial testing, everything tested well except that on 4 of the 8 tubes, there was flashing on shorts test K (the first shorts test). After finishing the initial test, I decided to retest the 4 failing tubes being sure to give them plenty of time to warm up. The first 2 tubes I tried then passed shorts test K with no problem. The third tube still has a flashing problem with this test. The last tube arced when I inserted it into the tester. By arced I mean that there is an extremely bright, flashing, white light. To be sure that my tester wasn't the problem, I reinserted a tube that originally passed shorts test K. It exhibited normal behavior including still passing test K. So I have 1 defective for sure and 3 other suspect tubes. I sent a message to the seller asking him to suggest a resolution to this problem. We'll see what he says. Do you think that I should insist on all 4 (potentially) bad tubes being replaced or just the one that arced? I guess I need to see if JJ EL84 have a reputation for being "fragile". At least it happened in my tester and not my amp.
