  1. You probably just killed the "feel hangover" part of your brain! Ah, now I understand. You're a young squirt. At my age, hangovers often last two days, so only having a slight hangover that quickly went away is pretty good for me.
  2. I thought that Nate was giving you the "complete SP experience"?
  3. Me neither, since I meant to say "by Matt" rather than "my Matt". <sigh>
  4. We celebrated my birthday yesterday in Los Olivos, CA. Started out by wine tasting at the Tre Anelli tasting room on an empty stomach. Then had dinner at Patrick's Side Street Cafe. My wife and I shared a bottle of 2002 Shoestring Sangiovese with dinner. I probably got 2/3's of the bottle. Then I had trouble sleeping and woke up with a slight hangover. It was worth it. I have to find out where I can buy more of the wine, but at retail this time.
  5. Thanks everybody. My wife had to be out of town today so we celebrated it yesterday. I almost forgot that it was today except for the slight hangover. I hope everybody has happy holidays! -ken
  6. Howdy all, I just received an email from a friend. He wants a recommendation for a DAC to use with his Slim Devices Squeezebox. His desired price is <$1000 and didn't say if buying used was ok. Let's assume that a used DAC is ok with him. He mentioned the DAC-1 as a possibility. Lastly, he mostly listens to classic rock. I'm not a DAC guy and am hoping that you guys can give me some recommendations to pass on to him. Please note that this isn't for headphone listening. He has a system based on vintage Macintosh amps. I think that his speakers are Proacs, but can't remember for sure. Thanks in advance for your help. -ken
  7. Actually, Boomana meant to say that John Tucker is "now" offerring new upgrades. I recently bought JP#'s eXemplar 2900 and sent it to John for the upgrades. These are an opamp upgrade and a low pass filter upgrade. I don't know the details and I didn't hear the eXemplar before the mods. I now have $1.9K into it and it's by far the best digital front end that I've spent any time with. It's retrieval of details is amazing. I've never heard a Lector so can not compare them. However, I had my Eastsound CD-5 modded my Matt at SACDMods. That's a picture of my unit on his website. His changes have really improved the CD-5, but it still lags behind the eXemplar in virtually all facets of Redbook music reproduction.
  8. Nah, he wouldn't be the first. Just look at JBLoudG20 above so. He's still banned!

Yes. Of all the faces to use, did it have to be Richard Nixon?
  11. Step 4.5 - "Accidentally" include photos of a high toot source in the picture with your amp!
  12. I'm sure that this is all true, but he's still scary with a set of K1000s on his head!
  13. My favorite Southpark episode ever. "I can't take the pressure!"
  14. No, John's a good guy and not a fanboy. vchoheda is a huge RSA fanboy and might have done it, but I would think he would try to sue you to death.
  15. Especially with a set of K1000s on your head!
  16. Who cares about the hammer. I want to see pictures of the Hydrogen Torch! Ok, the hammer is pretty spectacular, still ...
  17. That list must be huge by now. How many times have you had to upsize your disks to hold it? In this case though, you don't have to make it any larger. www.dictionary.com seems to think that "ought" is an acceptable variant of "aught". I am assuming that's how you'd like to see it spelled.
  18. Good? Good? I see that you are going for the understatement of the oughts too!
  19. The thread suddenly became interesting to me. The OP has discovered that a "lifetime" warranty is not exactly what he thought it was: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/3536861-post7.html. He was undaunted and decided that it was great anyway. It's a wonderful example of "inverse sour grapes".
  20. You can do a search on google. The most useful link I found was www.wikihow.com/Clean-Battery-Leaks/Spills. What you do many depends on whether it was an alkaline or acid battery that spilled and it's unclear which it was by your description.
  21. x2. This succinctly states the phenomenon.
  22. One GB of memory for my laptop. Unfortunately it had two 256MB cards so now I only have 1.25 GB instead of 1.5 GB. Still it's a huge performance increase to go from 512 MB to 1.25 GB.
  23. Rio Grande. I have a soft spot for Westerns.
  24. Agreed, but see previous reply. Also, Xin products seem to be in constant upgrade and that feeds the phenomenon. All one gets is a "snapshot" of the current product and it often is out of date by the time it arrives. If someone likes the Xin business model, of course they should participate in it. I'm just saying I don't understand liking it or putting up with it. Each to their own!
  25. I agree. But sending it back in for updates seems to be part of the "Xin Phenomenon". It's part of what I don't understand. Any amplifier you have sounds better than any you don't have by definition.
