  1. That's great! Congratulations. I visited my Dad last Thursday. It was his 89th birthday. He's doing fairly well and is pretty aware, though his concentration is gone. Other than that he's totally in touch with reality. So we are pretty lucky.
  2. Besides friends don't let friends buy from Walmart! Please don't do it.
  3. I didn't like the way a Meier Opera drove my modded K340s. The sound was thin and compressed. The Opera was missing the voltage and/or current needed to drive them well.
  4. Also you need a good amplifier that can provide them a lot of current. They are very hard to drive.
  5. I only live 90 miles from LA, so I can be a surrogate too!
  6. I got up and fed the animals (3 cats, 4 parrots). Ate breakfast and went to my workout (Mistress Marisa is out physical trainer). Came home showered and then headed to Westlake Village to meet Greg (Augsburger) for lunch. He allowed me to buy some Wedell and Seasmoke Pinot Noir from his allocation (the wait list is years for both). I forgot my checkbook but he let me have them anyway. We had lunch at a very good BBQ place in Thousand Oaks. Then I went to BevMo looking for some Oogie. They didn't have any. From there I went to my sister's house in TO. My dad lives with her and today was his 89th birthday. We went to the BevMo in Simi Valley. Again, no Oogie. I bought some Laphroig "Full Cask Strength" instead. Came home and had a sandwich. Went to Thursday night Bridge. Came home and am comparing the regular Laphroig 10 with the Full Cask 10. The full cask is better as it should be for the cost difference. All in all a pretty busy day.
  7. CNN reports a 6.1 earthquake has hit southern Iceland. I hope everything is fine with you and your family Birgir.

    Here's an instant classic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG1LLTYkn4I
  9. I'm sure that the LA crew can party, but this meet is almost 400 miles from LA so there may not be many SoCal people there. Not to worry however, the NorCal crew parties pretty well too.
  10. $85 would be great. I just looked up the cost on their web site and $104 was the best I could find with AARP discount. Where does the $99 come from, not that $5 would stop me?
  11. While it's not the featured instrument, there is some nice baritone sax (at least I think it's baritone) on Gaucho "Deluxe".
  12. I forgot to add that I'll be bringing my usual gear: Home: HP2, Headphile modified K340, Darth Beyers Tarted out SP Extreme Platinum eXemplar Denon 2900 Bedside: Yuin PK2 (probably only for my use) Custom HeadAmp AE-2 (custom colors and engraving) iPod I think that Stacy will come. If so, I can bring one other person w/ gear. If she doesn't come, I can bring two addition people w/ gear.
  13. Hi John. I'd be interested in a hotel room there. Now it's just 4 to go.
  14. Since JP#'s and Ironbut have raved about Jackie Naylor at VSAC, I thought I'd buy her latest "The Color 5" at the Bottlehead site.
  15. I'll go dig it out of storage so I can tell you. It's not a great amp and it's not especially small, but it definitely is cheap!
  16. I have parrots in the house and they are really sensitive to lead poisoning, much more than humans. So I'd rather not have any lead fumes that I can avoid in the house.
  17. I have a couple of DIY questions: This one is pretty basic. I need an easy to use, lead-free solder. I'm guessing a lead-free eutectic solder is what I'm looking for. Is this correct and do you have any recommendations. Also, please recommend a source for it. Not that I'll be needing this information in the near future, but I have a question about Magnequest. I see a lot of other brands talked about here and almost no mention of this one. Are Magnequest not great transformers? Or maybe there is some other problem with them or the company? Or lastly, maybe nobody here uses them due to habit? I'm just curious as I know that Bottlehead likes and uses them.
  18. There was already a reference to it in the "Favorite posts from the site that can't mention our name" thread. See post #1537.
  19. They kind of look like ice cream sandwiches to me.
  20. Fixed an error in the original quote. Also, the roads in the area are narrow and dangerous. If the climb doesn't do you in, the cars might. I try to avoid walking in my area whenever possible. On the other hand, the view isn't too bad.
  21. My obnoxious neighbor's house got a 43/100. That was much better than I expected as there is a 400' change of elevation between it and all the stores, etc. The walk down is too bad, but the walk up is a killer.
  22. I have a mid-90's Rotel 5 channel home theater. Some of the channels can be bridged together for more power. It may or may not sound that hot for you, but the price is right. Come by and it's yours.
  23. Somebody's been visiting the Bottlehead site.
