  1. It's more than just how it sounds. For instance, I could buy one of these and put it in a pretty package and sell it for $1000. Would you buy it, even if it sounded great? Sound quality is definitely the most important thing, but one needs to know if one can get the same or better SQ for a lot less. Knowing the internals of an amp helps find other options. $500 for this amp is the worst amp deal I've every seen. Rudistor would have to make an expensive custom chassis to make it small. Then they would have to charge $700 to get the same profit margin.
  2. You can follow up with Barry Manilow.
  3. He must have been impressed. Most hockey fans can't count.
  4. Yes, the fan blows the bass towards the vacuum, which sucks it in.
  5. Happy Birthday Jim. Hope it's a good one!
  6. The problem with this approach is that both people have to be happy with the volume unless you put an attenuator on one of the headphones. The volume difference will be exacerbated if you are using headphones of much different sensitivities.
  7. Sure, why not get the answer from the horse's mouth? I would ask if he would do it rather than if he discontinued doing it though.
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. They can't. I just assume that the OP meant static issues. Certainly all the responses were addressing static issues.

    True Blood

Are you sure it just isn't the start of Stockholm Syndrome?
  11. I'm just curious. I'm a real fan of Bottlehead products and have never heard the Seduction. As far as Jack being willing, I'm hoping he's coming next spring (or whenever) to the International meet and that he'll bring the Seduction with him. If you are not done with his mods by then, we're likely to start calling you "Mikhail".
  12. It is a sickness.
  13. I'm definitely a job. As I said, I really don't need a phono preamp at the moment. Even so, I was tempted to get in on the Pearl group buy. I'm curious, about how much are the parts and casing costs? I might have found a Seduction for us to compare against. Posty has one. Jack, are you coming to CanJam LA? If so, can we convince you to bring it? Please? My preference is a tube preamp with a tube amp. I also like to have tubes in my sources. My speaker setup is based around an Anthem Int-1 integrated amp (with 15 tubes) and its source is an Ah! Tjoeb 99 (2 tubes). My headphone setup is an eXemplar Denon 2900 (2 tubes) into an SP Platinum Extreme.
  14. Great, now all you have to do is get the Seduction. While I generally prefer tubes, I agree with this. Of course, both can be made to sound simply horrid too.
  15. Mmm. Harlot Estates. Looks racy.
  16. Not that I have a need for either one, but I'd love to hear an MM cartridge shootout between a Pearl and a Bottlehead Seduction (with C4S).
  17. You mean like the Pearl?
  18. I heard the Beveridge speakers and amps (it was a complete system) in the late 70's. I was sitting in the sweet spot when an audiophile LP was playing. It was someone playing a xylophone. The sound was so real I could smell the wood. The big problem with Beveridge's, besides their size and price, was that the sweet spot was literally one person wide. If you were in it, everything sounded perfect. If you weren't, everything sounded strange.
  19. I remember Romy from AA too. He's pretty much a whacko. But he's always right and if you don't agree with him, you are wrong.
  20. Happy Birthday!
  21. I know of a decent Chinese restaurant in TO. Can't remember its name, but it's on the nw corner of Moorpark and Los Arboles (I think). Sorry I can't be more definite. I'll ask my sister the next time I talk to her.
  22. I'll have to try it if and when I get back to the Boston area. I checked for the French restaurant in Harvard. It turns out that it's still there, but in Acton, not Harvard. I'm getting old and my memory isn't what it once was. Besides, it was more than 20 years ago. The restaurant is Le Lyonnais. It was quite good and the prices are quite reasonable. Do it in the summer and you can finish it off with some ice cream from Kimball Farms in Littleton.
  23. Congrats Vincent.
  24. I haven't been to L'Espalier since the early 80's. It's a really nice restaurant. Glad to see it's still going strong. There used to be a really nice French restaurant in Harvard too. I can't remember its name, but if it's still there, it's probably worth a visit. At least it used to be. Oh yeah. Beefy, the beer looks good too.
