Me too. Again, it's that increased separation of church and state I'd like to see. The state controls the legal meaning of what a "union" is. I'd call it a "civil union". Marriage can then refer to the religious term and each religion can define marriage any way they want. Of course, it has no legal standing. I'd agree that there recently (the last 40 years at least) has been little difference between the two parties except for who is backing whom. But then I'm a known political cynic too. I love that fact that many people seem to believe that the church invented marriage. Marriage was around long before any modern religions were. What exactly is a "traditional" marriage anyway? There are examples of homosexual marriages, polygamy and polyandry everywhere, including the bible. In the US, tradition marriage for years didn't allow for divorce. The traditional idea of Morman marriage includes polygamy. The ideas of what a "traditional" marriage is have changed over the years. They're going to continue to change.

Yep. I really find this disheartening. At least it was razor close. Good job. Californians are among the most tolerant people, at least the ones on the coast. It's very different inland. There were similar measures passed in Arizona and Florida: Arizona: 56% for, 44% against Florida: 62% for, 38% against These results are a lot less "tolerant" than the California result. Lots of money was thrown into both sides from out of state. The "for" side ran a typical fear-mongering ad campaign and it seems to have worked. To take a page out of another HCer's book, this is very much like the Civil Rights movement in the 60's. At the time, there was a lot of resistance. Now, almost everybody looks back and can't really understand why. It's obvious that Gay Rights is moving the same way. Prop 8 will be overturned in the not too distant future and forty years from now, most people will wonder why it was an issue now. As I stated in the America thread, I'd really like to reestablish and strengthen separation of church and state. Most of the "for" money and some of the "against" money came from churches. IMO, churches should stay out of elections. I'd like to see the laws changed that churches can't give money to elections and maintain their tax free status.

Aristaeus came and went on HF.. lasted 20 minutes
guzziguy replied to Luminette's topic in Headphone Amplification
Maybe you should host a meet at the same time with your equipment. That way people have a choice as to what they would like to hear. You also wouldn't have any trouble getting people to show up with their gear too. -

Maybe something was learned from that incident. Somebody was very deservedly excluded from CanJam. Nobody thought that person should have been allowed to come. There was definitely no shit storm. The people running this meet decided that since it was impossible to have both, they'd rather have Ray than Kevin. I have no problem with that. What I find to be galling and show a total lack of class is to then ask to borrow Kevin's equipment. What chutzpah! It is hypocritical of Ray to have whined about being excluded in Cincinnati and then now insist that Kevin be excluded or he won't show up. -
My cheapo Sears rotary tool just died for the second time. I could fix it again, but this is too good of a deal to pass up. Thanks for the pointer.

Nate, you and I are pretty much in complete agreement. I'm a centrist and watching the two main parties each get more extreme and divisive for the last 40 years has been terrible for me to watch. I'd really love to see a viable middle of the road party that is socially progressive and fiscally responsible. The last 8 years have been exactly the opposite of this. I'd also like to see the separation of church and state be reestablished and strengthened. I agreed with this sentiment until the 2000 election. If the election then was based purely on the popular vote, instead of just fighting for votes in Florida, both parties would have scrabbled for more votes nationally. It might have taken years to determine the winner. Since then, I've been a firm believer in the Electoral College.

At least it's an up and coming team.

Hard Drive S.M.A.R.T data
guzziguy replied to Bob_McBob's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
But thanks for trying to help. That's better than a lot of first posts. For all newbies, the posts don't time out and, if you haven't read them, will be on your list of unread posts. So spend the first week (or three) reading posts and getting the lay of the land. It will go much smoother for you than resurrecting old, very dead posts. -

Two eggs over easy on multigrain toast with Cholula sauce. Accompanied by lots of hot, black coffee. Good morning all!

I wasn't trying to say that one thread was better than the other, just point out what different directions they took. I'd say one could easily distill the differences between HF and HC just by reading and comparing this thread on both sites. I much prefer this version, but then I've known for a long time where I belong.

I thought that the debates were over.

I agree with the others about Shun. They are much better than the German knives of a couple of years ago. I have the original Shun Ken Onion Chef knife and a Shun Elite Deba. Love them both. Al, I agree with you about the Globals. They just don't seem to fit my hand well and I hate their aesthetics.

How would you tell? Ditto!

For the price, I think I'll stick with my Shuns. Sometime I might have to "invest" in a fancy Damascus steel Japanese knife. Yeah, maybe. Just as soon as the stock market reaches Feb 2000 levels again.

Please reread Voltron's post above. Sherwood has already apologized and said he won't repeat his mistake. So please, no more

I noticed this evening that the OP has created the exact same thread on HF. Needless to say, the thread there took a much different direction that it did here.

I don't know any of those.

It never seems to be equal. I'd say not posting racial jokes is a smarter strategy.

Best Single Ended USB DAC under 1000?
guzziguy replied to Jeepster's topic in Home Source Components
I read about it on the USB DACs web site. This is part of Wavelength Audio. Of course, coming soon has the same precise meaning as ASAP.
