    Deals

My cheapo Sears rotary tool just died for the second time. I could fix it again, but this is too good of a deal to pass up. Thanks for the pointer.

    America...

Nate, you and I are pretty much in complete agreement. I'm a centrist and watching the two main parties each get more extreme and divisive for the last 40 years has been terrible for me to watch. I'd really love to see a viable middle of the road party that is socially progressive and fiscally responsible. The last 8 years have been exactly the opposite of this. I'd also like to see the separation of church and state be reestablished and strengthened. I agreed with this sentiment until the 2000 election. If the election then was based purely on the popular vote, instead of just fighting for votes in Florida, both parties would have scrabbled for more votes nationally. It might have taken years to determine the winner. Since then, I've been a firm believer in the Electoral College.
  3. At least it's an up and coming team.

  5. But thanks for trying to help. That's better than a lot of first posts. For all newbies, the posts don't time out and, if you haven't read them, will be on your list of unread posts. So spend the first week (or three) reading posts and getting the lay of the land. It will go much smoother for you than resurrecting old, very dead posts.
  6. How many do your kids have?

  8. Two eggs over easy on multigrain toast with Cholula sauce. Accompanied by lots of hot, black coffee. Good morning all!

I wasn't trying to say that one thread was better than the other, just point out what different directions they took. I'd say one could easily distill the differences between HF and HC just by reading and comparing this thread on both sites. I much prefer this version, but then I've known for a long time where I belong.
  10. I thought that the debates were over.

  12. I agree with the others about Shun. They are much better than the German knives of a couple of years ago. I have the original Shun Ken Onion Chef knife and a Shun Elite Deba. Love them both. Al, I agree with you about the Globals. They just don't seem to fit my hand well and I hate their aesthetics.
  13. How would you tell? Ditto!
  14. For the price, I think I'll stick with my Shuns. Sometime I might have to "invest" in a fancy Damascus steel Japanese knife. Yeah, maybe. Just as soon as the stock market reaches Feb 2000 levels again.
  15. Please reread Voltron's post above. Sherwood has already apologized and said he won't repeat his mistake. So please, no more

    Wet Shaving

I noticed this evening that the OP has created the exact same thread on HF. Needless to say, the thread there took a much different direction that it did here.

    Jokes

It never seems to be equal. I'd say not posting racial jokes is a smarter strategy.
  20. No shit?
  21. I read about it on the USB DACs web site. This is part of Wavelength Audio. Of course, coming soon has the same precise meaning as ASAP.
  22. If you are going to open it up to other brands, maybe you should ask John Tucker to ship you an XP-2 demo unit so you can compare it too.
  23. Oops, forgot about the requirement for USB input. I already knew that any Assemblage DAC would have to be bought used. I wonder how hard it would be to add a USB input to one and whether it would be worth it. Time to use your product to find USB dacs. Ok, here's a quick (and definitely not exhaustive) list of USB DACS to get started: 1. Wavelength Brick - retails for $1750. You might find one used for $1000 or less. 2. Wavelength Proton - coming soon. Will retail for $900. 3. Stello DA100 - $695 4. Apogee Mini-DAC - $895 Note that I've not heard any of these DACs and, to the best of my knowledge) all are single-ended.
  24. I agree. How does he have time to make all those movies too?
  25. I've never heard them, but have heard good things about the old Assemblage DACs (kits) from Sonic Frontiers. They have the reputation of being very good up front and also being very tweakable.
