  1. I listened to the PK1s and PK2s at HeadFest in SJ being driven by a current (at the time) Head-Direct amp and my iPod. I haven't heard the PK1s since then. I bought the PK2s. They have a nice midrange and are a little rolled off at the extremes. What they have at the extremes is tight. They have a decent soundstage but not the presence of full sized headphones (, which don't have the presence of speakers, which don't have the presence of live performance). An iPod drives them well and I find I listen a lot to them due to the convenience and their musicality. What I remember about the PK1s is that the extremes are more present. I use a piece of organ music from the Burmester CD II to see how phones do with complex pieces of music. The PK1s sounds muddled to me in this test while the PK2s were much better. This and the fact that I didn't want to be tied to an amplifier are what led me to buy the PK2s. Hopefully some PK1 owners will give their impressions of them. There are threads on HF about them too.
  2. Wrong response. It shows that you haven't done a thing to figure out what this forum is about and the people in it. You're just using it for your benefit, no matter how you posture it to be for others. Fortunately, I don't think you'll be around much longer to continue to do it. The reason Grawk finds it quickly is that he's a moderator here and finds most things quickly. I doubt he gives a whit about stalking you.
  3. Trader Joe's chicken noodle soup with TJ's frozen succotash and enough salt, pepper and tabasco to give it some real flavor.
  4. The PK family are all earbuds. The PK1 needs an amplifier to sound its best, which is very good. If you don't want to use an amp, the PK2 is very nice straight out of a portable source. I'm one of the minority of people that prefer the PK2 to the PK1 (though not by much) amped or not.
  5. I see you are considering open headphones. Is there any reason you wouldn't consider a Yuin PK1? You'll have some nice phones and they are cheap enough to keep as a backup pair after your HP2s are ready.
  6. Or hit you with a shovel.
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. Where're the wallwarts???
  9. That can't be right. There aren't any wall warts in the power supply.
  10. That's because it rarely is working. Often, it's negative-working. Not only do you not make progress but you break something that has to be fixed before you can continue.
  11. Thanks for the enlightenment. I don't remember hearing that description of it before.
  12. I'm guessing that you mean any SP amp with external power supply. Is that correct? I have an Extreme with stepped attenuator and there definitely is no wall wart in it. I've posted pictures here before. I have no idea of the source of the attenuator.
  13. He probably could. Plus I doubt that Dan really wants to deny everybody the pleasure of resurrecting this amp and creating the Phoenix. Great name Nate!
  14. Alright, here's a chance to make Dan uncomfortable too. If we work this right, maybe we can make Dan ant Nate uncomfortable at the same time.
  15. I've never heard of Nick Drake, must less listened. Who knows, maybe I do.
  16. At least the travel is short to there. You also have a place to stay if you get to Santa Barbara. Just let me know.
  17. Hiroshi, you and I should exchange some music. Then we can see which of us is the more disgusted.
  18. were
  19. It's only been my "location" for 2.5 years. Yes, it's really nice here. Of course, you have a place to stay if you ever visit SB again.
  20. Do you know where you are going yet? I'm an Air Force brat. We had two unusual postings. We were at Mountain Home AFB (ID) for 8 years and at Davis Monthan AFB (Tucson, AZ) for 4 years. Of course, we had some short stays too like 1 year at Walker AFB (Roswell, NM) and 2 years at Andersen AFB (Guam). I moved a lot as a young adult but have lived here in Santa Barbara sinc 1988.
  21. I'm in for cash. Also, after the next couple of weeks, I'll have time to help with the organization. I'd volunteer to ramrod, but that person should be a DIY guy or someone else that actually knows what is necessary to do.
  22. You mean there's another forum?
  23. Here is a another Head-Direct recommendation. Recently, my PK2s developed a failure of the wire where it inserts into the bud. I don't know how it happened but a cat is potentially the cause. They were out of warranty but Fang replaced them for $30. So you know that your investment is protected with Head-Direct.
