  2. mbriant, saving the world from the evils of Head-Case.
  3. Happy Birthday Julian. Hope you have a great one.
  4. From Monoprice: 2 non-premium 6' optical digital cables 2 3' RCA interconnects
  5. Those look good to me. If I needed HDMI cables, I'd order those.
  6. Yes, if it doesn't meet the USB spec, it's not a USB cable. That product easily could have come out of Singlepower instead of ALO.
  7. He was wild about the DNA amps on the last day of CanJam. I thought that he'd get one of those. I guess the difference in $$$ came into play.
  8. That's a lot of ifs. If the odds of each happening are say 80%, the odds of all of them happening is 33%. If you need all of them to be happy, you'll probably not get it. For me, it's a no brainer already. I use a minimal portable rig (iPod + PK2) and have no need for anything with a DAC, amp, etc. For some people, this is the answer to their dreams. Maybe the latter is a large enough market segment for this to make a go.
  9. You mean that you didn't leave her in OZ?
  10. I was going to joke that I couldn't afford the upgrade to Bluejeans optical digital cables. Then I checked the price and see that a 6' cable is 8x the cost of the equivalent Monoprice cable. That's not funny. On the plus side for BJ cables, they are currently having a sale on HDMI cables. Their price beats Monoprice by $4 or so.
  11. Latest update. I tried the "Premium" cable with the PS3 that we bought. It won't latch there either. I just ordered two 6' cheapo cables from Monoprice, one to hook the PS3 to the cheapo Monoprice optical switch and one to connect the switch to the THX receiver. No more "Premium" cables for me. I'll take the one I have to the next meet and try to give it away.
  12. Here's my idea of a reasonably priced HDMI cable.
  13. Nate, what would it cost for a custom template to drill out the tube socket holes so that better sockets could be used? Or is a template not the way to go for this?
  14. And probably still not make a detectable change to the sound. I'll have to do a little experiment when I have time.
  15. Not Icarium but I have a Headfive. It's not bad but I'd rather have a Gilmore Lite. I've heard the Opera several times and it is really thin. I really like Jan but not so much his amps.
  16. A Woo headphone stand from Justin and a switch box from Nate.
  17. Congratulations Doug. Could you please explain what "2:1" means for this ignorant colonial?
  18. My two came in last Friday.

Absolutely. It's a good thing that those kids didn't write "hydrogen bomb" on it instead.
  20. I think that this is playing a large part in your feelings about this PS. As Al said, if you fixed it, you wouldn't own those repairs for the rest of your life. Besides, once you fix it, what can possibly go wrong?
  21. This is very much like the point of diminishing returns on audio equipment. Everybody's is different and everybody has to decide this for themselves. I was just reporting about my choices and in no way was implying that anybody else follow them. Good luck with your choices.
  22. Me too. Now I'm 56 and weigh 195. As you get older and you metabolism continues to slow down, it gets harder and harder to keep the weight off. Me too. I'd rather eat what I want than lose 20 lbs. I now exercise regularly, at least when I'm not recovering from a motorcycle crash. But I'm not giving up the food and drink that I like. I may not live as long, but at least I'll be living, not just existing.
  23. I was really tired yesterday and see that I made two mistakes in the original and only corrected one of them. The Sony tape deck is a "TC-350". Duh.
  24. Bad Thor. Play with your toys. BTW, the "CT-150" in the post you quoted is a typo. The unit I now have is a "TC-150".
  25. Send the family to Fisherman's wharf while you and Al get together.
