  1. Hey Antonio. The notes I read were part of the tape from The Tape Project. This is another Dan Schmalle (Doc Bottlehead) enterprise. I just assumed that the CD had the same thing in miniature format. BTW, Bottlehead's rebuilt and modified Nagra tape player was by far the best source at the meet. I asked Dan how much it was worth. He really didn't know but guessed at $15K.
  2. I talked to Sankar at the meet. The automatic adjustment method that is currently being used doesn't work on my head. He responded that a lot of people were having that problem and that they were going to make there own frame for the next release. Caveat: My memory isn't very good anymore. This is what I remember but could easily be incorrect.
  3. I agree with that. While a couple of my ribs and right shoulder blade are still still a little tender, by far the largest pain I have from my Feb crash is soft tissue damage in my left shoulder. I'd been trying to figure it out as I hit the ground on my right side. Recently I think I've figured it out. By moving my arm around to see what positions caused the most pain, I figure that my arm must have been slung up and behind my head when I hit. Hopefully this will eventually heal. I'm definitely at the age where I don't heal as well or as quickly as I did when I was young.
  4. Good news Al. A fractured fibula is nothing compared to torn ligaments. Hopefully that's the correct diagnosis. I'm surprised that he didn't notice a broken fibula on the x-ray. It looks great. I need to make one. Are those neoprene washers I see on the top shelf? If so, can you please tell me where you got them?
  5. With PK2s out of my laptop, I could hear sound at 1, 5 and 10 HZ. However, it wasn't until 15 Hz that it sounded like a bass tone. I heard nothing at those frequencies with the laptop speakers, hardly a surprise.
  6. The truth hurts.
  7. Moar tubez.
  8. Sieg Heil.
  9. That's OK, you can sell it to Dinny and buy something new.
  10. Look for used SP Platinum Extreme for no more than $500. Be sure to get pictures of its insides to verify its condition. Don't even think about getting anything but a Platinum Extreme. Though in your shoes I'd take Dan's (grawk) advice. Edit: You also might want to take a look at the new Laconic amp that Craig Uthus (www.eddiecurrent.com) had at the recent NorCal meet.
  11. Happy Birthday Tyll! :prettyprincess: I hope that you got to spend it out on your motorcycle.
  12. When I first got into headphones in 2006, I first bought Westone UM2s. I figured that this would be my do all (and only) headphone. It didn't work out like that. While I like the SQ of the UM2s, I hated wearing IEMs. Now I only use them for flying. So they are definitely good enough for me. Somebody mentioned (I think it was JP#s) that JH would remold a pair for $200. If that's the case, they'd have considerably more than $0 resale value.
  13. If you don't like it now, it's unlikely that you'll love it after burn-in. On the plus side, you'll be able to sell it for $600.
  14. Why? Just tell her that you'll go to the concert to avoid disturbing her sleep before such an important run. "I'm doing it for you, honey".
  15. I think that this meet was bigger. So that would make it a mega-mini-mega meet.
  16. Hey Dan. I saw you there but never got the chance to come talk. Sorry about that. I'll catch you (or vice versa) next time.
  17. Doh! You are correct. I should've thought more before posting.
  18. This may explain why Al preferred the sound from the Woo over the BHSE. Of course, maybe it doesn't matter.
  19. You might want to look at it differently. After Birgir finishes and tells everybody how good it is, everybody will want to build one. Then you can sell the boards for $300 a pop and do well. Oops, forgot where I was for a second.
  20. The album is Color 5, 2006.
  21. I think the problem with the DNA amp is that it doesn't put out enough power for hard to drive headphones like the HD800. I borrowed the LCD-1 to see how it sounded out of my Platinum Extreme. However, somebody was listening to it so I plugged it into the (single-ended) DNA. It produced OK volume if I turned it up all the way. Still the sound was very flat. The LCD-1 is a hard headphone to drive as it has low impedance and, apparently, low sensitivity. When I was able to plug the LCD-1 into my Extreme, it was able to easily drive it to acceptable volumes and the LCD-1 came alive. The DNA amps are for people with easy to drive headphones. She was there because the Bottlehead people were there. She is associated with them. I bought my JN album through the Bottlehead website several years ago. Dan (Doc Bottlehead) wrote the liner notes for it. I think that he's also engineered at least one of her recordings. She is not a headphone geek but obviously interested enough to try them out. She was very nice and friendly. I'm not much of a groupie type, so I kept my distance as I assume any even slightly well known performer gets tired of people approaching them. She actually came out from behind the Bottlehead table and introduced herself to me. So she gets points for being "human" from me. Al was doing very well on his leg. He didn't limp and seemed to be in no pain. He had an MRI that morning, so he'll know for sure very soon. Then we'll know too.
  22. Woke up late at the NorCal meet hotel. Almost immediately got a call from the woman with whom we boarded our birds. She wanted to know when we were coming to pick them up as they had become noisy (this is the third time the birds have stayed with her) and her neighbors had complained. So we got dressed, checked out and headed home. 6 hours later we picked picked up the birds and got the scoop. Anyway, now we need to find a new place to leave the birds when we are gone. Stupid birds.
  23. That was Paul, right? He was the young guy at the table. Are you sure he said 1000 hours? He told me about 100 hours, but wasn't sure.
