What about an iPod and earbuds as a solution? I suggest PK2s since they don't need an external amp but obviously you are capable of finding your own headphones. This would have the advantage of still being open yet would not disturb any of your neighbors. This solution would also have the advantage of being really inexpensive as you already have most of what you need and the earbuds would be relatively cheap.
Another possible solution is to disable the speaker. I've had to do that several times at work. Of course, it would still be good to have music at work. That's why I got into headphones in the first place.
Wow! Cosmetically the Gilmore Lite is a huge win over the Ayre, which looks like it's in a plastic PC case. I suspect that it looks better in real life. I sure hope it does.
