  10. I'd have gotten JH13 over the ES5, but the price ($50 total) made the choice easy. Of course I had a minor customer support problem that took 6 months to solve. It was solved well though. I'm impressed by the ES5 build quality. It looks like JHA was too. I agree that the ES5 is comfortable. It seems that having proper molds is very important for comfort.
  11. Do these need to be matched? The BOM calls for 12 of them. How many should one order to be relatively sure of getting enough usable parts. I'll be building the internal heatsink model, so I don't need the "A" part. One more question. Is this the latest BOM and is it for the internal heatsink model? http://gilmore.chem....gsshvbomas.xlsx If not, could someone please direct me to the latest BOM?

    Audeze LCD-2

    Is this something Steve does?
  13. Spent 2 hours on the phone with HP support to try to figure out why the drawer on the optical drive of my Pavilion laptop. In the end, we decided that the drive was defective and they are sending me a replacement drive. The support wasn't too bad, but not great. At least I know how to remove and install the drive now.
  14. Great album. Alan Parsons lives in Montecito so I get to attend his occasional live performances. Back on track, I'm listening to this great CD. It's really a shame that M&K RealTime went out of business. Ah, you can buy it used for only $83.94. IMO, it's only a little overpriced.

That's a much better reason than expectation bias. I'll take it. I don't know what the exact reason(s) are, but I definitely like my HD800 from my tube amps. You suggestion could definitely account for a large part of it.

    Audeze LCD-2

I liked them the short period of time I listened. Unfortunately I have a very short head (ears to top) and I couldn't adjust the headband small enough so that they would fit. My short period of listening time involved holding the LCS-2s (or maybe they were even LCD-1s, can't remember) in place with my hands. That's fine for a short time but rather awkward for real listening. If Kevin will make me a free sample silver, balance cable for my HD800, I'll shill over there day and night. Like Antonio, I haven't tried the HE60. For me, the HD800 gets out of the way of the music better than any headphone that I've listened to for more than 1 hour. I also like the fact that they are light and very comfortable. That's very important to me. To me, the HD800 sound best being driven by a reasonably powered tube amp. This is despite what Kevin said about it. I really love the sound of them out of my KG-fixed SP Extreme and it's even better out of my Nugget Audio Menace TCLite. Maybe the tubes tame the highs a little for them or maybe it's just my expectation bias. Don't know but I like the HD800 well enough to sell a really nice HP2. Again, the fit and comfort of the HD800 play a large part in me liking them.
  17. Ditto. Wishing you dad luck in beating the pneumonia.

That's not possible. Everybody knows that bass molecules are too large to fit through a Sennheiser HD650 cable. That's why their sound is veiled.
  19. I think that this is makes more sense.

  22. I need some advice from the turntable experts. I recently moved to an apartment. One of the pluses to it is that I'll finally have room to use my turntable. I started playing with it yesterday, and noticed that the stylus has been bent 90 degrees. Here is a fuzzy picture (had to use a flashlight) but the blurry shiny thing going to the right is the stylus. This happened because the large nut that holds the tonearm had come lose and the entire arm slewed during the move. The cartridge is a Reson Reca, which is basically a modified Goldring 1042. I'm wondering how to fix this. Is this just a stylus problem, or do you think that it damaged the cartridge too? Can I just try to bend the stylus straight again? Can I fix it by replacing the stylus? Should I find a local turntable expert and have that person look at it and try to fix it? Damn this is a bit frustrating. I thought that I would finally be getting back into analog. Oh well, I've already waited 11 years, I can wait another couple of weeks. Thanks for your help and advice. Cheers, -ken
