So here's my final take: Harold Camping has disappeared. "Raptured" my ass. His church has spent over 100 million worldwide advertising the end. My prediction is that this phony will be found quietly living the high life in an unmarked motorohome somewhere in a sunny climate. I think 10% of that money would be a tidy sum...

"...Meanwhile, in downtown Oakland about 200 atheists attended the American Atheists convention commemorating (mostly mocking) the rapture. "Here's the takeaway," said Richard Hodill of San Mateo, who staffed the registration table at the atheist convention. "Learn to be a discriminating and critical thinker. Base your life on evidence-based reasoning. Religion exploits people to their detriment." Well said. (from this)

Really, it's probably the largest ever promotion for video game paraphernalia. Check it out: BioShock-Rapture

I know, I know. Nobody is supposed to survive, etc. Well, just in case, here is a link to the CDC's Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse in case some of you are still, you know, "here" after all the events.

This could mean I'd spend my last hours in front of my computer doing homework. What a bland way to go. Oh well. If I hear rumblings I suppose I'll at least check Google news. Then I'll go make a martini and watch some baseball.

Nice pic from another forum. Nice to see the display gets away from album art for a change. I wonder if their dB readings calculate for high or low impedance 'phones...(just sayin)

Oh. I see no line outs available. And I'm wondering how that slider would do if the unit were rolling around in a coat pocket.

Wildly retro looking. It has the design elements of 1960's audio and Mattel's handheld Football ca. 1976. Still, the glory in the guts is pretty surprising. "Different pushrod operating experience." I love translations. So who's gonna be first? I like the idea of something that small for work/commute. I really don't have a lot of space here...

Sleek by 50 sounds like it's only 50% good. To me.

maybe he's busy

Like?

No kidding. That Celine Dion-looking person is too obtrusive.

Ouch that. As for Michael Allen, he just sent me an email reply. I guess I have to remember that in much of the world, people just don't worry a lot about email. There is other work to do. Here is what he wrote: FX Tube DAC Specifications Inputs : 1 x coaxial 1 x toslink 1 x USB PC digital input Audio outputs : 1 x pair gold plated RCA outputs D/A converters: Texas Instruments PCM1793 USB Transceiver: CM102S Tubes: 2 x 12AX7 Frequency response:10Hz to 70KHz (±1dB) THD: <0.02% Tube Out(1kHz) SNR: 80dB Dynamic Range: 113dB Supported digital input upsampling frequencies: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz Audio output upsampling:Fixed 24 bit 192kHz Power consumption: <25W Dimensions: (H x W x D) 52 x 215 x 191mm (2.0 x 8.6 x 7.6") Weight: (net) 6.2 lbs., 2.8 kg Finishes: Silver / Black

Me, too. We could throw a twig and a leaf in there and see if they eat anything.

I'm not sure where that could have taken place. Anywhere he would have been kept captive would be bomb bait for his followers. Still, it would have been interesting to see him in the custody of someone he hated.

Outstanding. Burn, Osama. The handful of bullets you ate were worth more than your pathetic, psychopathic life.

Is that epic sax guy with a hair color job on the right? Must've been a long show...

I see a trend forming for the new Jolida. Bummer. I don't think it's a fluke fastlane.
-
I sent a polite email to Jolida about the supposed specs. After two days, I am also unimpressed with their lack of response.
-
Of all the values posted at Jolida, that one puzzled me the most. It seems it would be fairly simple to implement Class A, right? That might bring the distortion numbers down some.
-
I know. I was thinking that might be due to the tubes. Not sure. I found this. Includes some crappy cellphone pics of the internals. He has left the thread hanging so who knows. Sounds like the build quality was iffy, but that happens once on a while.

Yet another futher different dac. Seems like a decent product, the Joloda Glass FX tube dac. I agree, the name is a little pretentious. I have a Jolida tuner here somewhere, the JD 402. (Out of production now.) After digging around, there were a few places for a while that offered some upgrades to the unit, which caught my attention. And when I got inside it myself, I saw that yes, there were some obvious things to change that would be both easy and useful. For starters, caps, wiring, wire routing, tubes, etc. So on to the tube dac. A standard round of questions apply. Anyone heard it? Anyone have one? Anyone think this is a great/crappy buy? I'm asking since there are very few reviews of this unit online. The price seems decent at ~$375. For any DIYer it might also hold some "ultold riches" once it's been hotrodded... Thanks. (I am adding the upgrade items for the tuner here just to give an idea what might be able to be done with the dac....) This is Underwood Hi-Fi's ungodly price for upgrades on the old tuner. $400! Jebus. Here is the list. Career dead. Actually dead. Career dead.

It's definitely wearing me down. I see other students in the same program just struggling with the continued push. Getting my life back will be sweet. Yes, my little gem really helps me along. Outstanding!!!!!!! Send her my congratulations! A Masters earns high respect from me (well, everybody, really) There is definitely something to taking on more education in your 40s. I have so much more focus and can put together far more complex situations than I would have expected. Sure I curse and swear and flail my arms around sometimes. But I get away and re-approach and things fall into place. It's weird. Tyll, try it. Go take a class. You're a smart guy. You'll like it! I also say a thanks to you all out here. It's nice to swing by and find friends pulling for ya, electronics discussions, and an occasional hilarious newbie ban. You help my sanity as well.
