  1. Probably depends on what you want to do with it. What do you want to do with it? There are a lot of pocket cams available. Check any review and see what they compare it to first just to get an idea what is available.
  2. Why?
  3. Fighting a cold that started last week. This thing keeps taking odd turns and is just knocking me out. Sore throat/earache (earache my eye, how'd you like a buttache?) tingly body. Blech. Heading to the doctor tomorrow morning. I"m hoarse enough, though, that if I pick up a scottish accent I sound pretty much like Craig Ferguson.
  4. Had a similar situation around the holidays. This shelter owner was so sure we were the right people and sold us on this wonderful dog. Then when we sent some photos of our back yard, she tells us that no, it's just not big enough and he likes to run and run. Really disappointing. I'm still hoping Max (the dog) is happy wherever he is today. Good luck, Salty. There will be another dog and it will work out for you!
  5. Will do. Thanks!
  6. Of course, the gear and settings is only half the work. Leave it on auto anyway and study composition instead.
  7. Not sure if you've heard back from them yet, but I ordered a few parts from them a couple of years back. Not fast, but not bad. they do seem to have an interesting assortment of shtuff. Partsconnexion has a decent assortment, although I wish they had some satin black 12mm items for sale.
  8. Dearest mr company, bitrate and headphone model aint go nuttin to do with each other. Get the best amp you can afford. Then save for a better one, mostly because eventually youre gonna hear something that blows your dhik away.
  9. Bummer. I see the cost of the Mullards is not cheap. If it were me, I'd sell the Tung Sol and put the dollars towards some Mullard replacements. Make yourself happy. Life is short.
  10. Ah, that's cool. As a programmer and general computer junkie, thinking that someone is trying to foil a coding algorithm makes me happy. I don't buy the "with minimal sonic corruption" to be realistic, but you never know.
  11. Me too. I never thought the Marshall's (not really in this group) or the B&W versions took headphones too seriously. This one might hopefully be different. I'm a Focal fan, though, so maybe I'm just rooting for my own goals...
  12. Happy Birthday, Steve. Thanks for all the wild humor here!
  13. Compression is compression. No amount of preconceived fixing can escape the inevitable shitstorm of being compressed. Unless it's already compressed up the ying yang. When the world stops designing solely for Apple products, we can get back to growing better digital audio sound.
  14. grok birthday happiness, Grawk!
  15. Speaking of chairs, this one would do nicely. And I found one in white for you, too. When you have guests: presto, just unfold. INSTANT seating. No guests? Badabing: fold that baby up.
  16. So I've spent the last few months really listening to the great CDs Antonio sent me in the holiday exchange. I like to listen to albums quite a few times to really "get" them. Just me. So I think I have a handle on the first three and they're all great. I saved this one for last because it was most intriguing. And all I can say is WOW. This is amazing. Just cracked it open today and can't get enough. Such passion. Such emotion. Never mind the language barrier, the music and voice speak it all. I read the translation tonight for Eu sei que vou te amar and found that my guess at the subject was surprisingly right on, just based on how the tune was presented. Cool. Thanks again, Antonio. This will be a favorite for a very long time.
  17. I've rarely had luck doing haggling with local dealers. I don't know why. I always get the, "well, that's the msrp" or "we're not an internet dealer so wtf" from them. Anyway, I sure wish you could move that chair! Damn. Your imaging is really going to suffer from that, the blinds behind and the corner that is near the fireplace. I usually vote for towers, but in this case, you really might do well with stand-mounted monitors. That way when you want to watch a movie or have decent sound you could simply move the stands+monitors out where they sound better, then move them back to appease the HAF. The Paradigm Studios always get great reviews, although I haven't heard them in a while. I'm a big fan of Focal, and they have three lines to cover most budgets/needs. The Chorus 807 has a 1" and a 7" and is said to go down to 41Hz. Might need a sub, but 41Hz ain't bad. I think they're around $1100. Otherwise, my #1 rule for buying speakers is to listen to them first. Always! Good luck!
  18. A day late, but Happy Birthday, man! Hope it was a good one!
  19. A guy in the cube next to me at work just mentioned that he remembers seeing "a record machine" somewhere. I think he's too young. (He also didn't know who Steve Martin was.)
  20. Ah, the perfect location: Leavemethefuckaloneistan.
  21. Jude tries the "nice guy" thing, but he's so fearful of telling vendors that their products stink. For the power he holds, he should stand a little taller. Money talks, I guess.
  22. Craig, thanks for posting this. Your information about 75 ohm connectors - makes me think twice about both the consumer gera I already own, and my future DIY builds!
  23. Wayne - great story. Personally, I'm always on the lookout for possible converts like that. Good on you! I think one problem that will inevitably come up is the studios again and their fear that someone will copy it and give it away for free, etc. It happens. Apple will never be able to get past that, no matter how much money they throw at the problem. Not that I can see, anyway. Trust me, I'd love to get my hands on some of the stuff Steve Hoffman plays at his talks. Stunning.
  24. Wow, and just a few weeks before I pull the trigger for the NEX-5N. hmm. Moar research needed for me, then...
