RIP Mr. Gilbert. Sounds like an interesting person! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for all you do to keep this place running Todd!

To echo what Dusty said, you normally won’t see much if any file compatibility issues with Office files in terms of formatting, etc. Back when I was using VBA code at work a lot in Excel, when using the file at home, in many cases there were workarounds for missing functions (such as Split at the time). Slower, but worked. There are compile or runtime flags (ifmac or something like that) that would only use the VBA workaround on a Mac. As to the Catalina question, I am not even though my 2012 i7 Mini can use it. I just updated it to High Sierra this weekend. I have some 32-bit programs I still use, Mac Office 2011 among them, so am hesitant to go above where I am at currently. I’m also not sure what the current Catalina verdict is as well. EDIT: from a 2015 post by Laowei, he recommended a Wima MKS2C034701C00JSSD. Mouser of course has these and anything close on order for February. Looking on Digikey, I see a Kemet R82EC3470DQ70J, which didn't come up on my Mouser search, but they of course do have (and in stock). I'll probably just wait for the Wimas.

Thanks James. I have plenty of GRLV PCBs. I was thinking about looking for a dual GRHV board. Not sure yet. On the BOM I was using (which supposedly was the latest, with the 182R resistors), there were some Nichicon 0.47uf/50V caps (647-QYX1H474KTP) which don't even come close to fitting the board. These are 7.5mm LS and should be 5mm LS. The body on these things is huge, and would require bending resistors to fit them in. Who the fuck did this BOM anyhow? Any recommendation for a suitable cap here?

Starting on building a Carbon for a French friend here on the forum (DrizztDo). I built one of the SS Mini Dynalos for him a year or so ago, and he asked if I would be willing to build some other shit for him (including a UGS Muse preamp ?), and I said yes, since he was very pleasant to deal with. At any rate, using the latest BOM I could find, I wound up with some 182R resistors that I find no markings for. Searching the thread, I find some references stating that these should go to 120R, and the boards have one 120R marking on them... go figure. Questions: has anyone used Vishay/BC MRS25 resistors in a Carbon? They are rated at the same voltage as the KOA Speer MF1/2 are (which is what I am using elsewhere)? Just asking since I have a pair of 120R MRS25s. He sent along some of the left/right GRHV boards (which I asked about earlier). I would prefer to use one of the dual GRHV boards in order to do a mwl168-style universal PSU, which could accommodate a GG or other tube stat amp for him in the future. Anyone have a spare they would be willing to sell? I would like to do a 2 transformer build, with GRLV for the +/-15V supply, so 2 PSU boards and 2 transformers. What size of aluminum angle do most of you use for the heatsinking? 1 x 1 x 1/8"? Or? Do I need to use PEEK screws for the HV transistors, or are steel screws with the appropriate insulators around both the screws and the transistor/bracket OK? Thanks!

RIP Kobe! That is terrible. And with his daughter. I don't follow BB much, but he seemed like a classy player, and that he was doing good things since he retired from BB.

Matching PNP to NPN isn't easy usually, but try to get them as close as you can. And match NPN-NPN and PNP-PNP.

I heard some variant of the Ether Flow at Axpona and Headamp’s display and liked them. I was not a fan of the Aeon’s, which surprised me as from the comments a reviews I had read I thought I would. I think they were open but wasn’t really paying attention... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Happy Birthday!

My other use for it would be getting analog 2ch audio out of it, both for CD/SACD as well as Bluray or DVD (concert stuff) into my 2ch stereo. Or into a DAC if I ever buy an external DAC.

Curious as well as I have a POS cheap Sony. I’ve (irrationally?) been jonesing for an Opportunity (203? 205?). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just have a calculator built into my BOM spreadsheet with a few of the voltages I normally use available. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Should be fine as that would be the highest voltage seen, more or less. 40V caps? Seems like an odd value, at least for people used to Panasonics... Yes, to a point. For voltages over 20V, I change R7 & R10 to 2K as it results in more easily available resistor values for R8 & R10.

RIP Neil Peart... never saw him live, but seemed like a really great guy in the films/documentaries I've seen.

Engineers / designers like to be lazy when they can. No need to reinvent something that works just fine, unless you see a need to prevent something from working with someone else’s gear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Someone here could probably make the cable for you. PM Justin (headamp). He may even have some if it is the same as the DPS (probably is, but need to check to make sure).
-
^ Probably. All you are looking for is a +/-15Vdc power supply. Not sure on connecting it. It looks like the Lite uses a 5-pin DIN power input, which I think is what headroom used as well. You would need to verify the pin out on both ends. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Seeing some problems with the forum since yesterday. The Condensed view doesn't seem to be working. Everytime I jump into a thread, I start at the beginning. Not a huge deal, but it changed all of a sudden.
