  1. Yes, I'd noticed that Theil doesn't do this. Of course, from the sounds of it, driver manufacturers are the ones that do this to get a supposed flatter upper end response. Since Thiel makes their own drivers (from the website), they only have to impress their listeners
  2. I don't mean to thread crap the Thiel-centric thing, I'm only asking this here because there appears to be several knowledgeable speaker peeps here. Do any of you have an opinion on this. Looking at the Thiel website, this doesn't appear to be an issue with Thiels, but may be with other speakers...
  3. Hehe, nice pussy cat. No, really, she's a very cute cat.
  4. Starting to sound like a self-affirmation group... Kinda like head-fi Actually, I like this place alot, and have more problems spending time over there much, other than for train wrecks (that VD cable one keeps getting better, like OMG ). The DIY section is not of much interest anymore (main reason I went there to begin with). One user over there has the username of feckn_eejit which has always cracked me up, as it could (and should) be used for a multitude of users any given day (including me, I suppose).

  6. Welcome! Yeah, I guess introducing yourself is a good thing around here... right before you put up the FS ad....
  7. I have the same problem with my DIY Dynalo when used as a preamp. It uses the Neutrik switched jack, and since I leave my power amp on all the time, there is some bleed thru when I plug phones in. Since I don't normally use this as my preamp, I haven't gone in and figured out why (and of course fixed it )... my guess is some crosstalk. Why yours would work fine and then start doing it is

    iMod craze

Capacitors cannot add to the sound... in fact, caps are the furthest away from their ideal electrical model of any component I can think of, especially electrolytics (BlackGate, Muse, Elnas, etc.). There is a reason that KG designs most of his amps DC-coupled.
  9. I guess we'll just have to disagree on that. The Giants looked somewhat inept on offense (blown routes, Eli focusing on certain receivers too much and missing others wide open). The Giants defense and pass rush however had far more to do with the Pats offense looking inept. When they didn't get to Brady, he was hitting things pretty well. I just like to see Super Bowls that aren't the over-hyped blow out that often occurs.
  10. Yeah, that was a good game. I was rooting for NY and thought they had a chance going into it. Particularly if Eli doesn't fold and throw a pick in the 4th qtr, which he didn't. I thought they had lost it when he scrambled and somehow got out of there, then threw the completion that the receiver somehow managed to catch...
  11. The AES/EBU inputs/outputs on the DEQ also do S/PDIF... all you should need is a suitable cable (XLR on the DEQ end). I never tried these myself however. See manual pages 7 (item 17) and 13 under the I/O menu section for how to switch from AES/EBU to S/PDIF. You could probably try it with one of the SE-XLR adapters and a digital (RCA) cable also.
  12. Yeah, I know you weren't fishing for buyers and wasn't accusing you of that whatsoever. And what's wrong with a 21 lb. bike? Dammit, it is pretty much the right size... oh yeah, it has ShimaNO on it, that's the ticket I'm an old road bike dude, just don't ride a lot anymore, being north of ermm, err, a big age. Just kinda curious if I wanted to get out of friction shift or not
  13. Well, we'll start off with elimination first (like I need another road bike)... what size is it?
  14. You mean like Rudistors and Singlepowers and ECs are cheap? Not to mention RSAs?
  15. So is that what your selling, or Merckx something else?
  16. Well, the price on this thing is silly... but I would really like to hear one sometime. If you get right down to it, even a standard CDP is a "computer" to a certain extent. Maybe it runs Winbloze... that'd get me to take web streaming out of the feature set in a hurry Merckx, as in Eddy?
  17. There are a couple of threads on AudioAsylum discussing this. The thread referenced in this one has some interesting comments by Charles Hansen in it, who I would pretty much believe. I don't know if their claims regarding removal of the Reed-Salomon error correction hold any water or not, as from what I recall, disc errors were almost non-existent when Stereophile measured them. And I don't know much if anything about RS EC. The folks involved in Nova Physics apparently had their hands in Melos and Pipedreams (and another company) previously.
  18. Seconds Out is just an awesome album, period. I used to like Wind and Wuthering, A Trick of the Tail, etc. alot as well, but it has been a long time since I have listened to them. I was never a Gabriel-era or Collins-era bigot, and enjoy stuff from both periods. I think that Phil did a phenomenal job on Seconds Out, both vocally and drumming (the whole band for that matter). The earlier Genesis Live album (with Gabriel in his Watcher of the Skies garb on the cover IIRC) is quite good for old-school Genesis. Seems to be very low compression level and it is a very dynamic album (mine is LP; never listened to a CD version of this).
  19. You guys/gals sure look like you know how to travel... hope the rest of the trip goes smoother
  20. NYAH... I liked that Dusty
  21. How exactly do you deal with the shield? I sat downstairs tonight with my younger son building a mini-RCA cable for him for his mixer (recording) out of Starquad. Sat there unbraiding the shield for about 3+". Got down to the end and it all fell off... fuck fuck fuck!! I was trying to be careful when I stripped the jacket, and thought I was being careful splitting the braid and trying not to cut the shield wires. Wound up unshielded for the last 3 inches into the RCAs.
  22. He's a very good drummer... so Happy Birthday anyhow.
  23. More fucking snow.... damn am I sick of winter! Probably nothing for you in the NE, but driving in Chicago in snow sucks... and I don't even really have to go far.
  24. The ever popular Rane app note on balanced connections: http://rane.com/note110.html I think that a "balanced" cable with the ground disconnected at one end is still balanced, just not the best way to do it from a noise perspective. From the signal's perspective, ground is irrelevant.

    Nice Epay auction

Yeah. I use one at work. Kicks the living shit out of an iPod, at least one not big enuff to hold alot of uncompressed tunes. Well, at least without buying a DAC. But then I'd have SPDIF to deal with... so, I don't mind hauling some CDs...
