  1. Yes, it is fine. It is the current rating that you need to pay attention to; that and whether it is fast blow or slow-blow. Most fuses seem to be 250V anyhow...

    HD800 Impressions

Because this isn't head-fi, and see post #1 regarding the original HD800 thread.
  3. Thanks for the quick shipping Marc, but you could have waited til today to ship! And thanks for all of your efforts in this as I am sure it has taken up a fair chunk of time and worry.
  4. Sorry for your loss, Vicki.
  5. I don't doubt that SImaudio stuff is built well, but at their typical prices, not much chance of me ever forking out for one Even if it is effing MAJIC-32 and has a 32-bit Hyperstreamtm uber pissing all over everything I've always wanted to hear a Simaudio Andromeda (though it is probably getting a bit long in the tooth by now).
  6. Played golf for the first time since surgery 8 weeks ago, and got to drink IPA while doing it. Parred the first two holes (should have birdied the 2nd) and a couple of others, but need to do some work at the range. All in all a great way to spend the day.
  7. Some matched 3-pin thingies for a Dyna-thingie...
  8. Transient is a quick event. In terms of sound, something like a drum hit would be a good example. When someone speaks of transients in relation to a driver (speaker or headphone), they are usually discussing the speed of the device.
  9. What a POS! I'll send you an address that you should ship this to for disposal... The front would be more interesting, dood
  10. Yes, I've been reading that one as well...
  11. Either would work I would think (3cond with ground not connected at the device, or 2 cond). Take a look at the Volex cords (17604 I believe is the one most often recommended). The recommended Volex used to use Belden 19364, which is the cable used for the Bob Crump Asylum power cord, etc., and is a good choice, although it is 14ga 3x conductor, shielded. Definitely do not connect it at the device end. I use some of this on a CD player, first hardwired, now IEC, that was 2 conductor. Works fine.
  12. Just make sure you set the wrenches in front of the unit and let them coexist for a couple of hours first... synergy, ya know
  13. Gotta do the ball end. I have some Bondhus and they are great, but a little pricey. I ran across some Stanley (both in metric and SAE) some time ago in an Ace Hardware (I think, but can't quite remember) and they are pretty much as nice. These are standard ball allen sets in the plastic carrier thing with long "L" handles.
  14. Did I say that? I would take a look at Belden or Alpha or Carol multiconductor cable, or I would also consider just making your own out of SPC of appropriate gauge(s) and maybe some techflex. The teflon SPC should be good for 600V (300V mil-spec) or more. You will also have a problem finding anyone who will sell this by the foot I would think. As far as the connectors go, my .pdf plug-in is having problems opening Mouser's catalog pages, and Switchcraft's datasheet is also a problem. Don't the connector pn's specify the pin gauge?
  15. Agreed. A friend of mine who is a music lover was over the other weekend, and wanted to listen to something on the speaker rig. He has a kinda home theatre system with the typical tiny unobtrusive speakers, etc. I tossed The Planets on (he normally listens to classical) and the look on his face throughout and comments afterward were priceless. He may be in the market for better speakers soon, though probably not too big. And not that my system is that good compared to many of yours. Someone who has listened many times to something and doesn't like them isn't biased against them... they just plain don't like them.
  16. Happy Birthday Jack!

    Kitty Talk

My youngest son's kitten that he found almost a year ago. He and some friends were going past the high school not far from out house, and he heard a kitten meowing next to a tree. She was too young for adoption (vet said 3-4 weeks), and we thought we might need to feed her milk with a dropper, but she did just fine. First pic was a couple of months after he found her. Second pic is from a couple of weeks ago when she was spayed and declawed (front). She likes sitting up on her hind legs, and can walk on her back paws a bit.
  18. You might look into giving them a finlsh like they would do on concrete countertops. Many commercial stands provide the means for mass loading with lead shot or sand. I would think solid concrete would work pretty well and shouldn't be very resonant (if at all).
  19. Ahh, thanks. Going thru the list I didn't find much if any that I have. I did find Blondie Live, and looking at the jewel case, it was marked HDCD (even though it was a BMG pressing). Put it in, and once I hit play the HDCD light came on. Thanks, answered my question.
  20. Pars

    Perfect songs.

The Who: I Can See For Miles
  21. I'm still trying to verify if an HDCD compatible player I have is working or not. I haven't been able to get the HDCD light to come on with anything I have put in it. Supposedly Roxy Music-Avalon is an HDCD, but my copy was licensed by BMG, so I don't know if it really is an HDCD or not.
  22. What was the previous best?
  23. Pars

    Perfect songs.

Into girl singers lately (always?): Garbage: I'm Only Happpy When It Rains Curve: Lillies Dying (actually, a bunch of Curve stuff comes to mind. Just wish they were recorded better.)
  24. I agree. The RMAF thing should not be called CanJam... perhaps CJ Sampler?
  25. You could also get some alligator or mini-grabber adapter clips such as these and take a crappy RCA plug, strip it, and clip onto the shell of it. Many test lead sets come with an assortment of attachments. I use a set from Mueller that works pretty well and wasn't very expensive.
