PCM1702s and IIRC 1704s are 16 pin (DIP), but those appear to be SMD... I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the SLA was noisier than a sigma11 or other well designed AC PSU.

I believe Birgir claimed there was a lot of back-EMF from these. Don't recall whether Kevin has said what he thinks or not... Don't forget to throw an O2 in there also

You could always breadboard the amp on a suitable piece of mdf or plywood and see (hear) what it acts like with the layout as you would need it in the case. Won't tell you about heat, but should tell you if the xfrmr is going to be a problem with noise, and would allow you to play with orientation.
