    GoldenEar Tritons?

I actually kind of like Schitt; kind of self-deprecating. Golden Ear just sound pretentious as fuck to me. YMMV

    GoldenEar Tritons?

Really stupid name though... GoldenEar? Really?
  4. ^ What Steve said...
  5. XLRs aren't 110 ohms either.
  6. As Craig shows clearly, you really need to think of S/PDIF as a system. Changing out only the cable is probably a crap shoot. The transmit and receive circuitry/jacks and the cable make up the system. It is not a given that all 3 are done correctly...
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. Looks like you guys had a blast... wish I could have made it. And Mike, looking good, glad your recovery is progressing well!
  9. Nice! We need pics of the CD player
  10. Your measurements or theirs? I know you don't like Jocko much (and I'm not sure what I think), but SC was one that he always said lied thru their teeth on their datasheets... http://www.diyhifi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=284&p=5709&hilit=Scientific+Conversions#p5709
  11. PCM1702s and IIRC 1704s are 16 pin (DIP), but those appear to be SMD... As for pulse transformers, did you think about the Newava S22083 or 22160, which seem to be the ones that Jocko recommends? http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/S22160/470-1004-ND/555462 Not silly $ either I had noticed what you did regarding most pfeu pfeu BNC connectors being rhodium (insert material of your choice here) plated 50 ohm connectors...
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the SLA was noisier than a sigma11 or other well designed AC PSU.
  14. I believe Birgir claimed there was a lot of back-EMF from these. Don't recall whether Kevin has said what he thinks or not... Don't forget to throw an O2 in there also
  15. When they do large downsizings, its always in doubt.
  16. Happy Birthday!
  17. I'll bet it has a nicer case
  18. You could always breadboard the amp on a suitable piece of mdf or plywood and see (hear) what it acts like with the layout as you would need it in the case. Won't tell you about heat, but should tell you if the xfrmr is going to be a problem with noise, and would allow you to play with orientation.
  19. Stayed employed (again)
  20. Happy Birthday!
  21. Yep, musta missed that one. Fun read
