    The Killing

Did any of you watch this, or were you mesmerized by GOT? I enjoyed it, though I really like the series, and wasn't one of those pissed off when the Rosie Larson case wasn't solved in the 1st season.
  2. I haven't read the books, but rather shocking, though I suppose fitting...
  3. BTW, I had considered doing the Chicago TDC, but didn't have time to get ready for it this year (it is next Sunday). I'll try to do it next year. When looking at the site and considering registering, do you have to have diabetes to become a Red Rider?
  4. Great job Jeff!
  5. Have a good ride Jeff! Comfort trumps weight easily. What distance are you doing or planning on?
  6. Yes, lets get the Wings looking ahead to the next series...
  7. Yeah, but can't those guys put out 300+ watts... for an hour straight? I can do 300 watts or so... for maybe 30 seconds
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. Happy Birthday!
  10. Happy belated Birthday!
  11. Happy Birthday Raffy!
  12. Way to go Brent!
  13. Got 2 commutes in last week, did 20 miles another night, and went out for a short one last night which was cut short when it started pouring rain, but managed 60+ miles this week. Won't ride today. On my Monday commute home, I sensed something amiss with my backpack and reached back to find it had come open. Stopped and packed it back up. Further along I started thinking about my glasses/lens case. Sure enough when I got home, it was missing. Went back (car) along my route and found it, fortunately on a sidewalk instead of in a road. Lesson: don't leave the zippers together at the top, but at the bottom on one side . The commute route is kind of interesting. The big problem here are some railroad tracks that bisect N to S that I need to get across. Only major roads cross them (these are the tracks used for Metra, etc.) and those roads have little to no provision for riding on or next to them. I finally realized I could cut thru the Rt. 59 train station and use the tunnel under the tracks. Depending on time, this tunnel may have quite a few commuters walking thru it, so I usually have to walk the bike. Most of the drivers have been courteous so far.
  14. Thanks all! Had a good day, took off early from work and rode 20 miles, then sat out on the deck for recovery beer(s)
  15. ^ Yeowwww!
  16. Happy belated!
  17. If you haven't already, I would run thru the fit calculator on Competitive Cyclist. Have your wife take your measurements (3 times), and take a look at the recommendations (with a grain of salt). I personally use the Eddy fit as a base guideline, and am working with an existing frame. I would not do the competitive fit with its large drop and to me small frame size to achieve that. The French fit might also work well for you at this point with a more relaxed basis. Did 27 miles last Tuesday, haven't ridden at all since then until my commute this morning. Will commute again tomorrow, and maybe one more time this week, as well as try to get out one night this week also.
  18. Have a great one Ari!
  19. Happy Birthday! Nice cake too, you have a nice sister!
  20. Happy Birthday Shelly!
  21. Thanks for making me fall out of my chair...
  22. Datasheet should be right there on Mouser. Look at it.
  23. Sorry about the flat tire and the death of garmin Vicki! Hope you get out tomorrow and it suits you better.
  24. Damn, I had missed this (April 15, 2013). In my opinion, the best trumpet player to ever live. A huge musical influence on me even though I was a percussionist/timpanist (my twin brother was a very good trumpet player, with the Northbrook Sym. for a number of years). I met him probably around 1980 or so when he was guest artist with the regional symphony orchestra I played with when I was in school. Since my brother was 2nd trumpet in the orchestra, I was also invited to the reception/party afterwards hosted by the brass faculty. He indelibly impressed me with his graciousness and humility. I can't remember what he played, maybe the Hummel, but when I congratulated him on what a nice job he did, he seemed genuinely embarrassed. Quite the contrast to some of the divas, etc. that were guest artists at times! In talking to him, since I was/am a big Mahler fan bois, I asked him what his favorite Mahler symphony to play was. He replied "The 5th". I asked him why, thinking the 2nd or 3rd (with the posthorn solo), or maybe even the 8th might be. He simply said "Because I get to start it". http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-04-15/entertainment/chi-famed-cso-trumpeter-adolph-herseth-dead-at-91-20130414_1_adolph-herseth-cso-brass-choir-famed-cso One of my favorite quotes about him was from his son, who remarked that he always considered his dad a failure because he had the same job for 50 some years and never got a promotion... He had auditioned for 4th chair fresh from a Navy band in WWII, and was hired as principal, with everyone else being moved down a chair. RIP Mr. Herseth
  25. Yeah, neat article Vicki. I like what I have seen of Dave Kirk a lot. Very helpful poster on thepaceline also. Rode into work again today, gorgeous out, nice to have a fitness center here for a quick shower and change. The Trek is working out pretty well so far, though I still prefer the Raleigh by quite a margin. EDIT: Also forgot to mention, bike is looking good Raffy!
