  1. Well, the 12" of drop was a joke... I think. I run around 2-2.5" of drop, but I'm an old guy. More than that and I find it tiring on my neck to look up to see where I am going. Since you are young and probably much more fit than I am, once you start riding a lot, you may find that you want more drop or reach than what you are initially set up for.
  2. Not pant inseam. His measurement to the floor is probably closer to 32+, but I agree, the subtract 30cm seems to arrive at a (too) small frame. I'm 5'7" and my Raleigh is a 56 C-C (TT is also 56). At least 6" of seatpost showing (29" or 73.6 cm is my saddle height from BB). I also ride a couple of 54s and in some ways they seem small to me. Of course back then what CC would call a French fit was more what was recommended, instead of the smallest frame possible with 12" of drop The Competitive Cyclist fit calculator works pretty well for me (Eddy fit), though my frame is bigger than what it recommends.   3. How tall are you Justin? Inseam? I would think a 55 might be about right; the 51 definitely seems too small for you. Top tube length (or I guess effective length) is probably the most important measurement. What about Jeff's Calfee seemed too big for you? EDIT: I always liked this post on paceline. Jam a book in your crotch and measure (or have someone else measure) to the floor, barefooted. Subtract 30cm. Start there.

  5. Not sure if anyone wants to see these or not. I laced the rear wheel up on Sunday and took a few pics on my iphone, since some of you seemed sorta interested in wheelbuilding. These are 36h 3x, Mavic MA2 rims and DT Competition 1.8mm (15ga) spokes. Front wheel laced up, trued, done Parts for rear wheel laid out. Since I was reusing the spokes, I kept them sorted by side of wheel, and which side of the hub they went in on. This helps keep the bends oriented the same as they were. Key spoke in: Drive side trailing spokes: Trailing spokes on both sides: 1st leading spoke installed. From here on, just install the rest of the spokes, lacing each under the last crossing spoke. Done lacing: EDIT: Oops, wrong pic. Still 9 spokes to go on non-drive side. From here, it is just tensioning the wheels, setting the proper dish (to center the rim), and truing, both laterally and vertically. Pretty much done now, just need to finish dishing, setting and equalizing tension, and final truing.

  8. Have fun guys! Did some bike DIY tonight. My FrankenTrek commuter bike that my brother gave me needed to have the wheels rebuilt (to swap out the hubs). Relaced the front wheel tonight, and have it almost up to tension and relatively true. Will finish truing and de-stressing tomorrow. Thanks to my brothers for the Park tools (TS2 stand, tension meter, etc.). And the Rock'n'Roll nipple cream (why do I feel not quite right saying that). I might even take some pics on the rear wheel. This is actually kinda therapeutic And did ride to work 1 day this week, even though it was hot and humid.

  11. ^ I'll have to look at those. The Cannondale whatever that I have is a pain to get my iphone into, with a tube, levers, CO2, patch kit in it. I don't wear jerseys normally so don't have pockets to stash shit in.

  15. Boss let us off early this afternoon, so went out and did 28 on the Raleigh, which I hadn't been riding much this year. Avg. 15.1 which I felt was pretty good given the lack of miles this year. Gorgeous day out as well

After replacing the jacks with the Mouser # 161-7300-EX I had, I retested the amp, The rail splitter seemed fine, IG -> OG offset was less than 1mV, DC offset on either channel < 1mV, so everything seems good. Jack grounds insulated from one another now. I would guess that the OG being shorted to the IG only disabled the ground opamp/buffer loop, but apparently did not damage them. Can't believe I missed that when I was building the amp, but I guess I was focused on the trickle charger stuff, etc.

  23. Got the amp back today. This one has the 20 pin DIP socket for the feedback/gain resistors. One of the 10 ohm resistors had fallen out, so that accounted for his problems with one channel not working. He said he could get both to work by fiddling with the jack, but I suspect he was just getting both the L and R across one contact, i.e. mono. I had not insulated the jacks; the grounds on both jacks were connected together thru the front panel. When I tested the V+/V- split to input ground, they were perfect. I replaced the jacks with the insulated Kobiconns, and now the resistance from IG to OG is around 4M ohms. I haven't tested the power and rail splitting yet since replacing the jacks, but I have some TLEs so will replace that if necessary. Any other tests I should do? It has been probably 5 years since I built this, and it is one of the few active ground amps I have built. Thanks for the help!
